We are considering getting a whippet puppy and would value advice, suggestions and what to be thinking about, please.
We already have a a dog, she’s a rescue Heinz 57 who’s medium sized. She’s pretty chilled but used to being an only dog. Our 2 DC are 10 and 14. The new puppy will be primarily for the 14 year old who has autism and social anxiety. The aim is that they will undertake most of the training and care (they are DESPERATE for their own dog) with our support and supervision. Whippets have been the lead breed for ages. What do you all think? I’ve had animals all my child and adult life with most of them being rescues so I’m finding the shop rather than adopt a bit hard but would definitely like a puppy for them to train and grow with.
