What are you must haves, and what should I start stocking up on/storing away ready to get a dog?

We’re planning on getting a whippet, I’m just so excited I could start looking now but we have nothing ready, so I need all the tips!

when we picked ours up 6 years ago the lady suggested new rags as they like to suck on toys and it’s right he has several cuddly toys he will fall asleep sucking them. Also blankets, they like soft furnishings 🤣

Ours is now 16! We lost our other one 4 years ago at 12

you’ll give up your sofa and bed!

they can be buggers to house train so lots of cleaning stuff (one of us was difficult, one took to it no problem)

they hate being cold and or wet so you’ll need to buy coats when it cools down/starts raining

get on top of toe nail clipping from the start as their toenails can get very long in a shockingly short amount of time

you need to get another whippet - one isn’t enough

do NOT use a retractable lead as they can accelerate very very fast and are likely to damage their necks

good insurance!

doggy toothbrush & toothpaste. They are known for bad teeth so get on top of this from day 1

Comfy dog beds - they are boney dogs and like to be comfy. Ours both like/d beds with sides to stop drafts and memory foam and in our old man’s world - both!

Warm waterproof coats. Pyjamas for winter. A snuggle bed. Check out Brydle and Whyte. And Charley Chau. Both sighthound specialists. Specific sighthound collar and harness.
