Dog won’t stop licking paw

She is wearing a large buster collar AND an inflatable collar and it still doesn’t stop her getting to her sore paw… any ideas?

Have you taken her to the vet to see why?

Try putting a sock over it which is taped down with sticky bandage. Our vet prescribed a spray on skin, when our dog kept licking her paw after having torn her pad.

It’s a post op thing, might have to investigate the spray on skin. Any socks or bandages are swiftly dispatched..

You can buy boots for dogs. I don't know if they'd fare better than a sock.

I don't know how big your dog is, but I have used a toddler's babygro for my cocker post surgery. I got one from a charity shop for a couple of pounds.

Sock and use anti chew bandage over the top
I can confirm it tastes awful
If necessary bandage further up the leg so it can't be swiftly tugged off but would need sustained chewing to remove which hopefully would be stopped by the awful taste

Try making your buster collar slightly narrower.
i used stick on Velcro and overlapped a few inches of the collar. Not only does it stop them licking a wound it does make it much easier to get about without crashing into everything.
Do make sure they can drink though.

No she had her paw shaved for an op and the itching as he hair grew back started her licking it and here we are 3 weeks on, the op site is fully healed but paw is still scabby prompting further chewing.. it’s an endless cycle

Is it dry skin? I used a paw balm when my late dog had what looked like scuffs on the paw pads.

We taped an old child’s sock on our dogs paw. Seemed to be enough to break the cycle - used masking tape on the leg bit!

Name changed as anyone who knows me will recognise this! Not making a serious suggestion but to make you smile, here’s our boy very proud when he managed to dislodge the pool noodle which stopped him licking his paw. The cone just wasn’t long enough and he could use angles to get to it. The noodle did work for a couple of days before he bashed it off! We’ve had various paw injuries over the years and used a boot to good effect for walks etc, but check with the vet as it can impede healing to be covered all the time. Hope your pooch is better soon!

We've used toddler socks held in place with Micropore or a narrow strip of Vetwrap in the past. Or there's a trick you can do with one leg of a pair of child's tights - cut off one leg but leave the waistband, and then the dog's leg goes in the other leg with the waistband round their neck/shoulders. I'm not describing it very well, but you're basically recreating this.
