Prescription for flea and worming treatment

Does anyone get a vet prescription and buy flea and worm treatment online cheaper? Would I need a repeat prescription or can you bulk buy from 1 prescription? Ours will be £17 a month direct from the vet. All advice welcome, she’s just a pup so a new world for us

A vets prescription lasts for 6 months and they will only supply 6 months worth of drugs per prescription. You then have to have your dog vet checked to get another prescription.
I use a local independent vet who charge very little mark up on their drugs.
It is worth working out if its cheaper to buy online or direct from your vet.

I use Itch.com and it delivers monthly, so months for just flea treatment its about £8 and then worming months will be around £14, it works out ideal for me

Please check with your vet what type you're getting - some are absolutely devastating for wildlife. One dog swimming that's been recently flea or tick treated can kill millions of insects. Also worth considering whether you even need to routinely worm, flea or tick treat. Fleas can be treated if found, worms you can do something called wormcount, which means you're only treating with chemicals if absolutely necessary. Ticks are a bit trickier, as depending what area you're in they can harbour nasty diseases.

As long as the vet at the time of consultation writes an authorisation in your dogs notes for a specific flea/worm product and length of time authorisation is for - usually a 12month maximum you are then able to either buy the products directly from your vet without having to see the vet or you can get them on a written prescription requested from your vet (there will be a charge).
If you ask for a written script you can have 12months worth of product put on it and if you ask the vet to write it as a MULTI USE the online pharmacy will let you order smaller quantities at a time until the named quantity is 'used up', this saves you from buying 12months worth straight off if you prefer not too.
When the 12months is up a vet check is needed and then the same protocol ongoing.
If dog is a young one growing rapidly you will need to give regular weight updates to vet or take dog in to be weighed and recorded, in this situation better to buy products direct from vet , when weight has stabilised using a prescription has definite cost advantages.
