After saying this for years, we lost our cat in February and now have this handsome boy...I may be quite mad but he is such a delight, I totally forgot what I was missing not having a dog!

Congratulations, he’s gorgeous!
What’s his name?

MarxistMags · 21/04/2026 20:17

He's lovely 😍
I've managed to hold firm, no dog or cat .

NormasArse · 21/04/2026 20:20

I’ll never not have a dog again!

Yours is gorgeous 😍.

PrizedPickledPopcorn · 21/04/2026 20:21

I’m still hanging out, we want a bit longer before committing again.

Hatty65 · 21/04/2026 20:26

He's lovely. I keep saying 'this is the last one we're having' about our DDog, but I don't know if I'll stick to it when we lose him. He's currently 10 and got a few years left (hopefully) but DH and I are getting older and neither of us can walk far now. This doesn't matter with our lazy old hound, but I'm adamant we won't have another puppy after this.

DH is almost 70 and has never been without a dog in his life, so he can't bear to think of being without one.

He's beautiful!

I will definitely have another dog in the future, but never again a cat. I hate my cat at least once a day right now. She's a nightmare and I actually think I'm just not a cat person too.

Send him back PDQ!!!!
we have a three year old and, oh my, how our lives have shrunk.
obviously would never get rid of him now any more than I’d kick my adult kids out.
But by god he’s a tie.
every summer we go out to my mums in Spain we have to go through three days of barking and whining with tiny breaks of sleeping. God forbid we stop at a traffic light or toll booth!
it’s either that or we stay in England for a wet and cold summer.
im always saying ‘never again’.
now I’m saying maybe we’d get a smaller dog next time.

😍 how gorgeous, what is he called

LikeWhoUsesTypewritersAnyway · 21/04/2026 20:44

Awwww, he's BEAUTIFUL! 😘 DH and I have had cats for about a quarter century - 4 in total, and lost our last one a few months ago, she was 17.

We keep getting a strong pull towards getting another cat, maybe a rescue who is 6-7 y.o. - or older (as we are not spring chickens now!) But we are quite enjoying the freedom and having no tie and not having to pay someone when we go away, and depend on the sitter being available when we are going away.... We also enjoy not having puke piles when they decide to have a vom session, and our stuff not being scratched! And I don't miss being tripped up when they had their mad half hour! I'm not getting any younger and am not as steady on my feet!

We loved them so much but they were a commitment. Then there's the vet bills. They have skyrocketed this past 5-6 years, and we don't want to be spending the savings/nest egg we have for our retirement years on vet bills! Then there's the preventative treatment and week to week feeding of course... So we are standing strong.

We do miss having a pet though. They're lovely company (even if they can be little shits sometimes!) 😆

And then I speak to people who wouldn’t be without. Love that they feel anchored by pet. I am so torn. Perhaps the being torn means I shouldn’t.

Lovelynames123 · Yesterday 20:08

Thanks everyone, his real name is Nero (nickname is Cutie Patootie), he's currently napping in his crate after turning into a land shark! I'd forgotten how bitey pups could get but on the whole he is very good - potty trained, sleeps through, good recall and so adorable!

Last time I had a pup the dc were toddlers - teens now so they are a great help!

We held firm after loosing our last dog. Fast forward and our DS got a ball of white fluff.
We got the best of both worlds. He came to us when son and wife were at work.
He went home in the evening.
3 weeks ago he went to doggy heaven aged 14. We all miss him like mad.
They don't want another dog and we don't want to commit to having one ourselves.
Maybe our DD will get one Grin

Moll2020 · Yesterday 20:46

Ooh he’s gorgeous. I have a chocolate lab, she’s 5, we’re considering getting another one!

Balloonhearts · Yesterday 20:50

They're a massive tie and inconvenience. But God Damn he is cute... Look at the face on that. How are you ever going to tell him off?
