Could grass eating be linked to my dog's back pain rather than stomach issues?

I'd always thought dogs only ate grass if they had stomach pain; and certainly prior to this my dog would only eat grass if he'd eaten something crap and needed to vomit. Recently been investigated at the vet for pain, we think it's a spine issue and he's had Pardale. about to try Metacam.

The eating grass started at the same time as the apparent spine problem, so a few weeks before he was prescribed any medication. Would a dog do it if they were generally unhappy for example? Or is there likely to be a stomach problem too - he's eating and toiletting normally.

Some dogs just like eating grass. Others do it as a displacement behaviour, so he definitely could have started doing it when he was sore and feeling uncomfortable in an environment.
