This is a frankly astonishly long running thread about a glorious rescue Podenco known as Pod, who crashlanded into our lives in October 2024. Star of the show, menace to society and constant headache to his Mum Hanging, who has aged visibly since thread 1.

Featuring recurring characters including (but not limited to): Long Suffering DP, Stanley, Bug, Hippo and GentleHowl❗(collectively known as 'The Terror Squad'), BabyPod, Hump‼️, Fastest and newpodsontheblock Squiggle and BarkyMcBarkface (known collectively as 'The Pod Squad'), and random extra pals, Hippo II, Jalfrezi and Ridgebacks I - IX (exact number of Ridgebacks unclear).

Anyone considering/stuck with a teenage/rescue/sighthound/podenco/chaos goblin and thinking “how hard can it really be?”, come, read from the beginning... observe the emotional arc... posts may swing wildly between euphoria, despair, pride, exhaustion and intense love often within the same 24 hours.

Seriously though, there is A LOT of excellent, sage advice from various doggie experts on this thread (to whom me and Pod are eternally grateful) and if you're in a pit on despair, it might give you some much needed hope.

He does look like a Matteo. Definitely not Rusty. He looks very sedate...

These are all excellent and sensible points. I just wish it were possible to know if Pod would be happier with a friend or not. Lots of people with Pods get two.

He loved the spanners, although he was a disappointed they didn't want to play. There were more like room mates.

You're right, I feel like me and Pod are in a really good place at the moment and he's turning into the sweetest boy. Maybe in time he'll turn into the "confident older dog" that all these posts ask for.

It's the end of the Spanish hunting season and there are so many needing help it's breaking my heart.

I did always say if I got another boy or girl I'd name them Scout. Or Pronto, for a boy.

It's a nice idea for a dog to have a friend they love playing with at home... but the reality of living with dogs that want to play allll the time is an absolute frigging nightmare. More than about ten minutes of that inside the house or even in the garden (unless its vast acres of garden) is ... bit like being inside a doggy wall of death!

It is tough to know if he'd actually be like that - I think right now with an unknown, very similarly matched dog who is an adolescent, you would get maximum dickheadery from both, because Pod would regress, and Matteo would be encouraged (he's Matteo in my head now!) and wound up.

I reckon in a year from now, Pod will be well established as a reasonably sensible adult (relative to his type, total sense never going to happen!) and taking on another leggy lunatic would be a very reasonable prospect.

Perhaps in a few months, suggest borrowing one of his buddies for a weekend stay?

I’m going to be a bad influence. I had a look at Rusty/Matteo on Instagram. I can see why he’s tugging on your heartstrings @HangingOver. He does look so much like Pod. Add to that he looks a bit lost and unsure of himself and I want to give him a cuddle and get him snuggled up under a warm blanket.

Hopefully the handsome boy gets himself a loving owner soon and he too can eradicate pest rodents from fields.

I missed this new thread! He does seem to be doing so well now.

He is wondering what the hell the humans are doing to him putting him in a raincoat. And thinking about how to eat his way out of it.

He's coming for a heavily supervised 20 minute visit during the reception for gorgeous photos then back to the kennels with his little buddies. Then I'll collect him the day after.

I am really really nervous and also tired.
