Dog food recommendations - labrador

Can people recommend what dog food they’d recommend for an adult Labrador. We’ve been using Butternut box, together with kibble, but it’s not the cheapest option. I want a decent food, just slightly cheaper.

What good (or bad) food have people been using?

My adult Labrador has Purina sensitive stomach (lamb), I could do with it being low fat as he loves food too much!!

So many choices!

Butternut box is very expensive for what it is.

Forthglade wet food would be cheaper.

Milllies Wolfheart offers wet and dry food.

Best not to mix kibble and wet food as you give the dog unnecessary calories and mix up the nutritional value of the food.

My two labs eat Essentials kibble. Normally with a small amount of something for added interest on top (forthglade/fish4dogs/sweet potato)

My 4 year old Lab is on Skinners Field and Trial salmon and rice, as he can't have chicken.

Paleo Ridge is my girl's favourite

My two have been on Skinner's for years - various types. They also share a tin of tinned food each day.

They are in excellent condition.

I'd recommend Jollyes Lifestage as being good quality at an affordable price for a large dog. They do kibbles and trays of wet food - our Pyrenean girl has both. It is high in meat content, not crammed with grains and fillers, it's also pretty easy to get hold of.
There are various flavours, our girl has the lamb kibble but we add different flavours of the wet.
If you check the ingredients listings you'll see that this is high in meat, whereas Skinners and the like are high in grains.

Calibra is also a decent brand and I've recommended the large breed options on the puppy thread. Our girl is having the junior Calibra mixed with her Jollyes Lifestage and is doing really well on it, she's in beautiful condition with a fantastic coat.

If you do want to spend a bit more I'd agree that Essential Foods is the best, followed by Millies Wolfheart.

So's my Labrador. My 12 year old springer spaniel is on their maintenance kibble and looks wonderful on it.

Our springer is almost 12 and has been on Millie’s Wolfheart since she was a pup. It’s a really good quality food and the people are so knowledgeable if you need advice on which variety to feed.

It’s a brand called ci dog food but they only sell online, it’s highly rated on the all about dog food website

My 13 year old working Lab has been fed Skinners Field and Trial his whole life. Apart from some age related arthritis he’s never been unwell. He’s in excellent condition.

She gets whatever decent (ie high meat/fish content, low cereal) dry food is on the best special offer when I buy a sack online from Zooplus. At the moment she's on Purizon 80/20 fish kibble but the sack before that was Markus Muhle red deer.

She gets the odd egg on top, plus daily carrot/broccoli/cucumber/sweet potato/apple trimmings. And whenever we empty a tub of greek yoghurt she's allowed to lick that out.

Been using pure pet food for my 5 year old Husky X. Hands down the best food he’s had, cost is looking much better and smells a lot better after suffering with a sensitive stomach (very smelly!). Really easy to make too!

Another vote for Skinner's Field and Trial. Our 4 year old lab is in great condition and loves the muesli mix version (she got bored of the 'normal' kibble Skinner's but has been on this one for over 2 years now). We top it with a variety of low fat low calorie options on rotation- few pieces of cucumber/sweet potato/ butternut squash
