New puppy really smells

Morning all, we’ve got a new pup, she’s 11 weeks. She’s started to smell. I bathed her two days ago and she smells again now. I’m not sure if she’s managing to wee on herself when we take her outside? I can’t really identify the smell, it’s like nothing I’ve smelt before.

it’s not fishy, it’s not poo, I think it must be a urine smell.

I don’t want to keep bathing her as I don’t think that’s good for her skin. Any advice wise people of Mumsnet?

If she has floppy ears could be a build up of ear wax-that can sometimes smell!

Right, I am an idiot, I’ve just wiped her down with a bit of warm water as PP suggested and it was definitely this. I’m wondering if she’s not cleaning herself properly when she’s up for a wee in the night as she’s so tried.

yeah once she's properly toilet trained you'll find she'll wee more effectively. Dogs will clean themselves up when they get older.

@Coffeeishotits definetly not dog smell. I’ve had dogs before her and it’s not a smell I recognise but I’ve never had a girl before.

I've had four of each, and in my breed (Pyrenean) the girls definitely have a stronger body odour than the boys. When they're tiny it's a wee smell, but once they learn to clean themselves it's fine. As adults, our females have all had a sort of biscuity, sweaty smell sometimes that I hardly, if ever, noticed on my boys. And yes, they had regular health checks and no, it was not a yeast infection, it was more like a hormonal sweaty thing.
It doesn't mean the same is true of all breeds, but that has been our experience. Girls are more whiffy and as babies they wee on their knickers 😆

Just seen your update and glad you've figured out that it was just wee dribbles on her fur. This phase won't last long, as she gets a bit taller it should stop happening and she will learn to wash.

She will just be dribbling she is so young she probably won't be realising and wont really clean up, I don't know in female dogs but my male dog gets a sanitary clip at the groomers so pee doesn't get caught.
