What’s this on my dog’s arm?!

Hello All,

Noticed my pup was licking his paw/arm a lot today, had a look and this is the cause. We have a vet’s appt this Friday for another issue but would you go for an emergency appt? I can press it and he doesn’t wince or pull away or anything.

Any help much appreciated. Thank you

do you mean the bit next to you finger if so thats normal all dogs have it

Youcallisimportant · 27/08/2025 02:56

It’s a dewclaw 🙂

tattychicken · 27/08/2025 03:06

Dogs have legs, not arms. 😁

MauriceTheMussel · 27/08/2025 07:58

Not the dewclaw 😂 - about an inch to the left of the dew claw. Like a pinky fleshy nubbin

Is that a dachshund? I’m quite impressed he can reach that part of his leg tbh 😂

No clue what it is, but I’d take him to the vets before he manages to make it a bigger issue by licking at it.

it's difficult to see clearly in the picture but when our dog has a tick it looks like a pink fleshy nubbin- I thought it was a skin tag when I first saw his.

It's a dew claw. I'd be more worried about your dog having an arm!!Shock

MauriceTheMussel · 27/08/2025 08:37

It is indeed a dachshund! And it’s definitely a little T-Rex arm 😂

Im certain it’s not a tick or a parasite. I think it could be a wart (Dr Google)? We don’t have a cone of shame in the house so trying to find a way to stop him licking it until we see the vet on Friday

Not in my house. The back legs are the legs, the appendages at the front which have elbows, we call call arms. No confusion which appendage we're talking about then 😂

Howinthehelldidthishappen · 27/08/2025 08:50

But back to the question.
Google carpal pod. Not all dogs have them, but both mine do. And they are located near to the dew claw. Perfectly normal.

MysticHalfWitch · 27/08/2025 08:54

Haaaa we have this debate all the time!!! I maintain they have arms because they also have shoulders. This lady is not for turning. I cannot however help with his little nubbin though, sorry.

ginasevern · 27/08/2025 10:02

I'm pretty darn sure it's a tick OP.

tabulahrasa · 27/08/2025 11:44

It’s not a tick, there’s like 2 wee lumpy bits and then a larger one

it doesn’t look like it needs air… could you cover it so at least he can’t lick it? One of those bandages that stick to themselves? You can get them in places like home bargains, or chemists

Having long legged dogs, I’m on legs… but, they do have elbows…so…

MauriceTheMussel · 27/08/2025 12:27

Sherlock over here… my slow brain has clocked he got a new harness on Monday so maybe it’s rubbing? Which seems a lot more favourable than the possibility of a papilloma wart

tabulahrasa · 27/08/2025 20:47

I’d expect rubbing to be redder tbh?
