Good advice on pet ownership ignored

I’ve been lurking here for ages and there’s some excellent advice on some of these threads from what are clearly very experienced dog owners and people ignore it.

The vet tells them something. They ignore it.

Theyre warned about puppy farmers. They ignore it.

Theyre warned about the risks of certain breeds. They ignore it.

Theyre warned about young children and dogs. They ignore it.

I don’t understand. Why ask for advice if you won’t take it? On AIBU I expect it. But when it comes to pets why do people do it?

It happens in every aspect of life. People don't actually want advice. They want others to affirm their current plans or thought processes. Or they want to be told they've done everything they can and it's not their fault.

I'm a dog behaviourist.

Because people are either arrogant or stupid. Sometimes they are both.

In agreement with @Springadorable
They don't want advice, they seek validation and they will generally get it from people with the same level of experience that they have.

Correct.
And I'm a retired psychotherapist! 😂
