Are you sure you don’t want a poodle?

They’re clever, loving, available in a range of sizes and you don’t need to clip them into weird shapes unless you like that sort of thing*.

*This post is just a thinly veiled excuse to post pictures of my gorgeous mini poo

I like the standards. Poodles are such clever dogs.

I like the standards too, but went for a mini in the end because I’ve got a terrier about the same size and I thought they’d play well together (they do)

We had a poodle, miniature, white.

I ADORED her and she me. Funny, affectionate but not needy, good at barking at the front door (I approve of this with dogs but also have always trained ours to stop when I appear), fast as a Whippet, loved a snooze on a duvet or sofa, looked better clipped similarly to yours (let it grow out once. She looked like a cloud), super easy to train, huge vocab, smiled loads, got mistaken for a Bedlington on the regular.

I didn't realise how awesome poodles are until I got a poodle. They are hilarious comedians, full of sass, super smart and a personality that could fill a stadium.

You're spot on! Most people want a poodle and I say that as a doodle owner. Everything people love about the doodle, is the poodle.

Based on my very unscientific research, I also think the Standard is going to get a revival because when I say "my next dog will be a standard poodle" the person I'm talking nearly always goes wide eyed and said "OMG me too I would love a standard, I'm seriously thinking about that for our next dog"

Sounds like everyone I talk to wants a standard next....

I like the weird shapes! I am sure you know but they have a function. Well they did. It originated in France because the poodles (I think the big ones only but I stand corrected) were used for retrieving in water. The shapes helped them. Awesome dogs, very clever.

We had a toy poodle when I was a kid. He was chocolate and named Coco ha..he was so, so smart and sweet. We didn't deserve him.

I've never had one, since, but I did consider them before getting the 3 boys I've had since then.

Yep, they were clipped to protect their organs in cold water and to ensure weeds etc didn’t get caught round their hairy legs. Colours were so they could be spotted / identified by owners (trainers). Like jockeys wearing their stable silks.

DH had three minis when I first met him. They were one of the major attractions for me 😁

I have a mini Cockapoo and she just looks like your poodle. I think I’ll have a poodle next time. My dog is around 7kgs

My mini poodle is 18 months old and an absolute delight. Except when shes being a little shit.

I have recently adopted a miniature poodle, from a shelter. He is gorgeous, very loving, very clever, very funny and a cheeky personality but he comes with some issues, he has never been socialised or walked so he is finding the outside world a scary place and it seems that he has some separation anxiety, which I understand is not unusual in poodles or shelter dogs. Considering all that he has endured in his short life, he is coping amazingly well and I feel lucky that our paths crossed. He's my boy now and I will do everything I can to help him make the most of his second chance.
