Recommend me non-gross dog chews

Mine loves ears, pizzles, skin, danglers, snouts etc.

However I really want to limit these gross, germy chews to downstairs where we have hard floor.

I’m looking for some less gross chews they are allowed upstairs on the carpets. I have yak chews and some whimzees . Are there any others?

dog is 5kg.

Thanks for any ideas or inspiration!

I debated this for a while, starting off with a show home. Thing is all of those gross things are the natural things that are good for your dog.

I have carpet everywhere (poor dog ice skates otherwise) and I just let her have the good stuff and have invested in a jolly good hoover.

I suppose the other alternative is put wood down upstairs and get those giant machine washable low profile rugs that are so big they're basically carpets... but drastic though. But solves the keep it clean problem.

I find the braided lamb skin is quite dry and clean, though. Ditto rolled and dried skins.

Antlers! Dogs love them. No smell. No greasy mess. Last ages.
in pet shops but a bit pricey

Have a look on Floppy Ear. They have a range of antlers and other natural chews and treats. Fast free delivery too. Ours love the split antlers.

Antlers are not safe, sorry. They can cause gastrointestinal blockages. And broken teeth.

A vet warned us against both antler and yak chews when we got our pup last year. Apparently they don't have enough give and can chip teeth.

Please never give antlers - they are not dog safe and can very easily fracture teeth.

My dog loves her JR Pure Meat chews. They're 100% pure dried meat and there's a wide variety: venison, rabbit, goat etc. They never go gross and slimy - the only downside is that they only last a few minutes.

Tripe sticks and hairy rabbit ears.

I soften yak chews for my dog i soak them in water dry it off so it isnt too hard for him, I also have lamb plaits they don't go gross, I give him messier chews outside.

jaundicedoutlook · 20/08/2025 11:04

Dried duck wings. Much less gross than the various dessicated genitals that ours seems otherwise to enjoy, and can eat a whole one in one 30 minute sitting.

Coffeeishot · 20/08/2025 11:07

I will not have a dried genital in my house Pizzles absolutely reek as for testicles🤢

TheOnlyThing · 20/08/2025 11:09

Rabbits ears with hair are mess free.

MauriceTheMussel · 20/08/2025 11:37

Be careful with yak chews too - my 5kg dog has swallowed the last two-three inches of two whole…

Antlers are also just a total pain in the ass for noise when they get dropped on hard floors, plus agree they are too hard for teeth

Coffeeishot · 20/08/2025 11:52

You can put the last bit of yak chew in the microwave so it puffs up you need to put it in water though it is like a doggy wotsit😀
