Dog snoring

DinoLil · 15/08/2025 00:45

I'm having the most ridiculous insomnia. I'm talking a few years now .

I rehomed an elderly dog almost a year ago. She's 9yrs old , she doesn't like walking, just wants snacks, snuggles and snoozes.

So, doggo is snoring like a train. She's on my bed and is so LOUD! Should I just let her have my bed and go and sleep on the settee? I mean, come on, she's a poor old lady but so am I. I've got a spare room but she on that bed as well.

Oh and we don't we don't talk about the neighbours cat who also lives rent free and I'm very allergic to cats.

Bah!!!

I changed my bedsheets today and . I had closed bedroom door before going out at lunchtime…my dog had claimed her space when I got home this evening.
She is now snoring away, husband very apologetic for unlocking the door earlier after her walk !

Your dog and husband have entered a pact!

mamabearlove · 15/08/2025 01:31

Aah she looks gorgeous❤️

LardoBurrows · 15/08/2025 01:33

Sleep in the loft, doggo won't be able to follow you up the loft ladder.

DinoLil · 15/08/2025 01:35

@Peaceisenough hopefully the other pic will load. She's a funny a dog. I do need to stock up on the cream though 😆 She doesn't the proper dog nose cream, only the best for her!
I'm sorry you can't sleep either. Isn't it just rubbish? I'm on my own apart from doggo. It's lonely sometimes. Sending a hug and dog sends farts! She's very good at those!

Thank you so much for the doggo farts, received with love. ❤️ Yeah, insomnia is the pits. Too much time in my head when I really need a break.

DinoLil · 15/08/2025 01:45

@mamabearlove That's brilliant! What a plan! That's really excellent.. Not supposing anything, but I think you may have the perfect marriage right there! You can have your space, doggo with husband.

I'm twice divorced, DC long left home, so me and Stinky Mrs McStinky have a house, 3 beds and a tent.
I do have a lovely neighbour. I might move in with her and just throw food over the fence for doggo.
JOKING OBVIOUSLY!!

All of you who can't sleep. For whatever reason. We're not alone.

I'm sending all of you dog snores and farts! And snuggles. They're the best friends.

I wish I could talk to you all but I'm on the app and can't get DMs. But all of you are not on your own. We're all here together. Old lady, snoring dogs and all. But it's rubbish, isn't it? Nothing so lonely than 2am.

I'm with you all, waving from the Isle of Wight, with doggo. You're not on your own.

Just again. Glad I'm not alone. Dog aside, it can be so lonely at night.

But anyway, anyone want a stinky snory old lady to rehome?? That'll be me, btw!! 😆😆😆🤣🤣😂

I'm in hospital and missing my husband and pup big time. Been here 10 days and have yet to sleep longer than 2 hours.
Your pooch is adorable

Haha I’ve got the same problem! My older girl is snoring and my younger one is running and yapping in her sleep! 🙄 she woke herself up barking a few minutes ago 😂
Both fortunately are at least on their own beds as it’s so warm tonight.

DinoLil · 15/08/2025 02:14

@LardoBurrows She flipping would! Daft dog can climb and she has followed me up the loft ladder before. There's no escaping her! Waaaaah!!!!!
Moving house or posting her in a box ro the Outer Hebrides should do it!
Seriously though, I love every snore, fart not so much, just her. She's lovely. I said I'd never get another dog after my dear old chap was too tired 4yrs ago. But she bumbled along at the right time. And she found me.
But into the loft I go...TENT!!!
And Vaseline up my nose and noise cancelling headphones...

@neilyoungismyhero that's really tough. Sending you lots of dog hair, farts, snores and that's probably just your husband! Hope you're home soon and fully recovered x

So, dog has an elastic band around her nose and a cork up her arse.

Now I'm going to try sleep.

Obviously that's just a joke!!!

But I will try and sleep now and I hope all of you rest as well.

Hugs. I don't care if its not mumsnetty. Hugs to all of you. Try and get some sleep x

My dog sleeps in the other room now. I live in the US and my neurologist and sleep specialist both firmly recommended it (did you know that the Americans have done studies about how much dogs disturb our sleep? 😅). I must say, she doesn’t seem to mind and I sleep MUCH better without her suddenly, violently shaking her head as if she’s just climbed out of the sea in the middle of the bloody night.

The cat still does as she pleases. Approximately once a quarter she will stand upon my left kidney at 2:47 in the morning, but thankfully when I launch her off the side of the bed she has the sense to skulk on the floor for a few minutes and then hop back up and settle down well away from my kidneys.

Hopefully sleep visits you soon, OP!

My cavalier is currently snoring like an old man. I mean, he is 11, but seriously it's keeping me awake 😂

That pic is as cute as cute can be. Personally I would deploy a "wafting device" (fan, cushion etc.) for the worst of smells. 🤣🤣. This doesn't help with sleep until you are accustomed to it and can do it in you sleep😉. For the snoring there is no other answer than submission...follow the sound and let it waft over you...follow the sound... It's like counting sheep.

Ps I am hoping this is in good humour. 😃

If you do need to train her off your bed then you can but it would be a very slow process with setting her up somewhere, treats and distance rewards but given her age its going to be a challenge.

Chickensky · 15/08/2025 03:20

Stinky Mrs McStinky 🤣🤣

HelenaWaiting · 15/08/2025 03:52

As a long-term owner of generations of cavaliers and cavalier-crosses, I recommend you train Nora the Snorer to sleep on her tummy. They snore far less in this position. As soon as she flops over onto her side move her back and tell her she's a good girl. It'll take a couple of nights, but I swear it works.

😁 How did I miss this post, so funny!

Haha this made me laugh, I know exactly what you mean. My old girl snores so loud sometimes I honestly think the windows are shaking. I’ve ended up in the spare room more than once just to get some sleep.
