A woman with a cockapoo looked at my miniature poodle and said, ‘awww cute a puppy cockapoo’. I said ‘she’s a poodle actually’. The woman replied ‘oh, so she’s mostly poodle then?’ I replied ‘she’s completely poodle’. The woman just looked at me weirdly and walked off. I’m still chuckling at this.

I did try to explain to her there were two breeds - golden retrievers and labrador retrievers, but she didn't understand. I didn't get into labradors are yellow, not golden. I think that would have blown her mind. 😂

There's a guy who will not be told that my Yorkshire terrier isn't my St Bernard's puppy.

Every time I see him he asks when my St had her litter, or why I chose to keep that one, and he will not be told otherwise. From comments he has made I think he thinks I'm ashamed of breeding my St so I'm lying 🤣

It's been over a year now so I don't know when he thinks my yorkie is going to have her growth spurt.

I have a papillon that people think is a chihuahua.
I get a lot of comments about how they bet I never allow him to get dirty.
Every day he has a walk in the woods where he digs, swims, is in and out of the undergrowth and gets to display all his natural dog behaviours!
He has a very fine coat so whenever he’s dry, all the mud just drops out.

I had a cocker who was very slim when young.
I fed him and fed him, he was just very lithe! A man in a pub wanted to know if he was a rescue who had been starved!

It’s the way people say things though. Like when they insist and argue with you when you correct their assumptions. It’s weird

I have a cocker spaniel, who is liver and white. I have lost count of the amount of people who ask me if she is a springer and then argue with me when I say no.

I've had people very insistent that my lab must be a lab/pointer cross.

Pointing is not exclusive to pointers.

I have a labradoodle who looks like a flat coated retriever and a poodle who looks like a cockapoo apparently. I feel like a mad woman trying to explain, no they really are etc etc
It's funny, there's such a lot of variation within breeds but people expect a certain "look".

The other thing we often get with the Pyreneans is "I've only ever seen the black ones before..." Presumably meaning Bernese Mountain Dogs.

I get lots of 'is that an Alsatian or a German Shepherd?'

No one knows what my dog is which is fine because neither do we! Common guesses are Old English Sheepdog and Bearded Collie and sometimes people who know or have had those breeds can be quite insistent that’s what he is. We rescued him from a U.K. charity but he’s originally from Romania so it’s rather unlikely he is a long lost example of a classic U.K. breed and more likely that he’s just a good looking street mutt.

The sweetest one was a toddler who was quite insistent that she knows what he is ‘a polar bear!’ 🐻‍❄️

Mioritic Sheepdog?

If I had £1 for every time I hear the words Polar Bear in relation to my dogs, I would be a very wealthy woman by now 😆

People often assume my dog is a Border Collie. She’s not. Nor is she a Collie cross. She is, in fact, an Australian Shepherd. Sometimes I go along with it, sometimes I explain, but some people just can’t grasp it.
Mostly I find it’s an interesting topic of conversation.
DDog herself is somewhat selective about which dogs she likes to socialise with. She
mainly prefers her own type, however that includes Collies, so I think she’s a bit confused too

Yes he probably is a Mio or Mio cross but if I tell people that they have never heard of it and look at me even more strangely. I have taken to saying that he is a Romanian sheepdog.

I would so like to see your polar bear now.
