New puppy crying unless held and walked about.

We picked up our puppy yesterday and he is very sweet but cried u less helped and paced with. He slept in the crate overnight and was ok but as soon as he’s awake he cries wither with happiness or overwhelm unless cuddled and walled back and forth. How do we handle this????

The first few weeks are soooooooooo difficult. I promise it gets easier!!!!

This thread is so useful and reassuring. I’m getting a puppy in a couple of weeks and it’s good to know that you should spend time comforting and reassuring him until he bonds with you!

Puppies crying is totally normal, they’re just scared and want some comfort in their new home. Keep cuddling and walking him gently, but try putting him down for short breaks while staying close so he learns to settle. It takes patience, but he’ll get there! We got our pup a giant teddy when he was little, and it made a big difference, he loved snuggling it.

What do you do?! You cuddle and comfort him!

It really does seem so similar to parenting a child!
So much conflicting advice, before reading this thread I had seen that it was better to ignore a crying puppy but now seems that’s not the case. It’s good to know, who wants to ignore a scared animal?!
