Our beautiful dog

I am utterly devastated that today my beautiful dog passed away. She was a 14 year old English beagle. Our family adored her and are so heartbroken.

she collapsed and went into heart failure. We made the god awful decision not to let her be in any more pain. She would not have recovered and was paralysed and could not get up.

we got her to the emergency vets as fast as we could but they couldn’t do anything.

I cannot stop crying, I can’t believe she is gone.

So sorry for your loss op, we lost our lovely golden retriever Hugh 5 years ago this may and I miss him every single day. Sending my thoughts, it’s so so tough they become part of you ❤️

Rainbowchicken · 19/04/2025 21:18

What a beautiful picture and a beautiful girl. She must have known how loved she was, how amazing that you were able to give her that, even at the end. I'm so sorry for your loss.

Tiggy321 · 19/04/2025 21:25

@ForeverTeachi have found in the past few days, it is slowly sinking in. My routine has changed when I get up and go to bed and I miss my darling boy so painfully and keep looking at photos of him. But, he knew he was loved even if he felt we let him down at the end. Be kind to yourself. Dogs are the best companions but god it hurts when they go ❤️❤️

EffinMagicFairy · 19/04/2025 21:32

What a beautiful dog, so sorry, take your time to grieve, she was a big part of your family and the loss is immense.

Cadenza12 · 19/04/2025 21:49

Lost our girl in January so I do know what you are going through. All I can say is you gave her the best life and you did right by her at the end. It will get easier.

HufflebuffsAreOn · 19/04/2025 21:51

She’s really beautiful. Dogs are wise, I’m sure she knew that you were there and loved her completely. Sending love.

DinoLil · 19/04/2025 22:09

What a beautiful photo of a beautiful soul.
I'm so sorry you've lost her. But what a fabulous life you gave her! She was spoilt rotten, she adored you all.
How lucky you all were to share each others' lives.

ForeverTeach · 20/04/2025 08:10

Sorry for not replying individually but I really appreciate you all replying. We don’t have friends with dogs so they don’t really understand our grief. I cried so much last much last night my husband got me some sleeping tablets. I slept really badly as I kept thinking I could hear her.

I woke up this morning in floods again, my heart is literally breaking.

I’m so sorry for your loss. 💐 That must have been such a shock for you and will take time to feel real. She’ll always be in your heart. These dogs…they are so much a part of the family and we don’t have them for long enough 😞 they break our hearts when they go. Look after yourself xx

ForeverTeach · 20/04/2025 08:49

@florizel13 thank you.

I'm so sorry for your loss of your beautiful girl. She must have had the most wonderful, happy life with you. I lost my little dog in January from heart failure and I was absolutely heartbroken. We were together practically every day for 16 years. She was my best friend, my soul mate. It's a cliche but time is a great healer. It's been 3.5 months now and things are easier but losing my lovely girl is one of the hardest things I've ever had go through. I still sleep with her little jumper under my pillow and her blanket is still on the sofa. Sending you hugs.

Fleetheart · 20/04/2025 09:33

she is beautiful. she’s asleep now and you did the right thing for her. So painful for you I knowxxx

ForeverTeach · 20/04/2025 09:42

@DitzyMum @Fleetheart thank you. I came onto the landind and her empty bed was just there then downstairs and her other empty bed is just sitting there. I am beside myself.

@ForeverTeach I totally sympathise with you.
we lost our
girl 16 months ago.
it was the most heartbreaking thing. I cried for days on end and couldn’t stop.
she died at the overnight vets without me as she was to poorly to come home (pancreatitis) she had a cardiac arrest
I wasn’t there which I still struggle with as she hated the vets .
I still miss her every day but the grief isn’t as raw now but I simply can’t face having another as I can’t cope with the thought of that grief again.
be kind to yourself, I had a photo book made of her and had her cremated so she’s back home with us

lovemycbf · 20/04/2025 09:49

I also packed away her belongings up in the loft as it was too painful having her beds and toys around

ForeverTeach · 20/04/2025 09:50

@lovemycbf thank you, we asked for her to be cremated so we can have her back with us. They are also doing paw prints and clippings for us too. The photo book is a lovely idea.

So sorry for your loss OP. We lost our Ddog 2 years just passed and I still shed a tear for him occasionally. The loss is heavy, take it easy the next few days.

lovemycbf · 20/04/2025 09:54

@ForeverTeachi got a lovely box frame from Etsy it had a space for her photo, collar ,paw print and a tiny jar to put some fur in and it sits next to her ashes on my fireplace ❤️

ForeverTeach · 20/04/2025 10:10

@coldscottishmum thank you. I just can’t believe she’s gone.

ForeverTeach · 20/04/2025 10:12

@lovemycbf I’ll have a look for one of those, although I can’t bear to look, I can’t bring myself to move anything. I went downstairs and my husband has moved her bowl and replaced it with the cats bowl. I literally sobbed and asked him to put it back.

OP posts:
lovemycbf · 20/04/2025 10:23

@ForeverTeach
Don’t upset yourself more right now there’s plenty of time to think about what you would like to get to remember her by.
I waited a few weeks before doing her photo book as every time I looked at her photos I cried.
she knew you loved her dogs just know when they are loved and part of the family.
your grief is raw at the moment and sometimes you’ve just got to cry and try to process what’s happened in your own time and own way
be kind to yourself

ForeverTeach · 20/04/2025 10:41

@lovemycbf thank you. She was mostly my dog but my youngest doted on her and is devastated too. We are all upset I’ve never seen my husband cry so much.
