Looking for a good insurance company

We’re due to collect a rescue dog in the next couple of weeks. Looking for recommendations for reliable insurance companies and warnings for companies to avoid!

I use animal friends, they paid out directly to the vet this year for my 14 year old dogs mammary tumour removal, I had an excess and 20% copay to pay, because of her age, and I got pre approval so that probably sped things up a bit on the payout front. But the pre-approval was quick and there were no ridiculous clauses attached or back and forth with evidence, I asked the insurance company, they sent the forms, the vet filled them in and I had a decision in 48 hours.
The premiums are quite reasonable although I do have a higher excess and lower overall cover.

Sainsburys Bank is good.
I think it's the same underwriter as pet plan but consideration cheaper

We went with Pet Plan. I asked a relative who is a vet and that's what she recommended.

Pet Plan without a doubt

Another vote for Sainsbury's

Many Pets. Been with them four years now. Paid out quickly when we have claimed in the past.

Thanks everyone.

Sainsburys - I've had payouts the same week (literally four working days) before. They're not expensive (£35 for a 2 year old large breed for 12K cover) and they're reliable and easy to use - their online portal is very accessible and all you need is to know what you're claiming for (i.e. allergic reaction) and the vets email and address. That's it. They do the rest. They even chase the vet after five days...
