Do I need to take her to the vets?

My mini schnauzer is off her food, hasn't eaten since yesterday morning. This morning she seems a bit sad and her tummy is gurgling loudly, she still won't eat. She can be a drama queen though and often fools me into thinking she's ill when she's not! Aaaargh what to do!

Try feeding her something that’s a treat to work out if she’s not eating, or if she just doesn’t want what you’re feeding her

Have you checked nothing stuck between her teeth?

MissyB1 · 16/09/2024 08:21

She had to be persuaded to eat a treat, I'm going to try a short walk to see how she behaves outside.

Have you tried plain chicken and rice.

DustyLee123 · 16/09/2024 08:25

Has she had a wee/poo this morning?

Spenditlikebeckham · 16/09/2024 09:27

Is she spayed?

MissyB1 · 16/09/2024 09:37

So we went for a short walk in the park. She chased her ball and accepted treats! She did several wees and a tiny dry poo. Back home and refusing her breakfast still - I will get some cooked chicken today and try that.

Is she spayed?

Yes she was spayed as young pup, she's 8 years old now.

Following with interest .... my 3yr mini schnauzer has been refusing food too.
Our vet suggested that she may have mild pancreatitis, sometimes triggered by a higher fat diet- this breed is more prone to it. So we changed her diet to lower fat/gastro biscuits which she hated, then spewed up. Yuk.
Not sure what to do yet, each meal time is a bit of a test 🙃 but she is still very interested in our food & any treats - so like you, wonder if she's testing us on how long we can hold out before we give her just what she wants 🤣

I believe they are prone to be very fussy eaters (and ours always has been), but also prone to pancreatitis 🙁

She's drinking plenty but still refusing to eat. I will try chicken this evening and keep my fingers crossed. Hone it's one drama after another with her 🤦‍♀️
