My lovely dog can’t walk properly. Her front legs are sliding from underneath her and she is falling over. It is awful to witness.

started off with just a limp so we rested her for couple of days but no improvement so went the vets, they said she didn’t seem in pain and referred us to a more experienced vet. He said about an MRI which we did but I don’t think revealed an awful lot. He thinks it could be neurological.

She’s been prescribed steroids and we are due back next week.

Now she’s crying, legs giving way from under her. Also coughs a lot I’ve noticed when she has a drink. I don’t know what to do.

Unfortunately not!

The knuckling is getting worse too. 😞

we have an appointment with a new vet practice on the 1st November! Really hoping they can help, they came highly recommended by multiple people and are independent rather than a big chain like Medivet.

Oh and to top it off she has FLEAS. I don’t know how as she hasn’t been out due to the leg issue!? Just the back yard!

running out to PAH tomorrow for indorex spray. Ordered flea shampoo and a spot on. If spot is crap I’m going to have to ask the vet for the prescription one.

It really has! And I feel the amount of tests the vets had done we should at least have an idea!! I’m really hoping this new vets can help.

poor dog is getting worse. Had a couple of accidents in the house.

I think it’s time we thought about her quality of life. It just feels so unfair, she’s only 3. ☹️

So sorry to hear she’s not getting better. Did the new vets have any suggestions?

Floralnomad · 24/11/2024 12:06

Have you taken her for second opinions , perhaps one of the Royal Vet College places if you haven’t already . Could she be being poisoned ?

Yeah we have. She was referred to a specialist. She said it’s likely to be neurological and that it looks like she has radial nerve damage.

Adjusted meds dosage advised to get some sort of special boot to stop knuckling.

Is it just one leg that’s the problem and would an amputation be an option ?

We did think it was just the one leg but she has started knuckling on the other one now too!

I don’t know if that’s because that leg is doing so much of the work though.

the brace is coming from bloody America so we have a few more days to wait yet.

I’ve spoken to the DC about the possibility of her having to be put PTS due to poor quality of life. It’s awful. Never had to deal with anything like this before. DD10 is heartbroken. I don’t want to feel like we’re giving up but when you see her unable to walk it’s horrible!

I did wonder about amputation but the specialists and their tests wiped out our insurance limit.
