Dog hair in washing machine

Hi,

New pup owner. Trainings going great and he's really settled into our family.

I am not coping with all the hair though! Shorthaired breed, so although I knew he'd shed some hair, I wasn't expecting this! Hoovering and mopping twice a day to keep on top (even hoovering sofas daily even though he's not allowed on them). But I cannot stop the hair getting on our washing!

I wash anything of his (blankets/towels) in a separate load and wipe machine after. I have mesh bags to wash toys/harness/small bits as needed. But after only a few weeks, my machine must be so full of hair regardless, that all my clean washing is coming out with dog hair all over!

Any tips? Or anything I might be doing wrong?

TIAx

You can get wash bags that you place all his blankets inside before washing that keep the hair contained. (Google horse blanket wash bag).

Use one of those to help cut the hair in the machine down. But nothing will eradicate it totally.

I always run a rinse cycle through after I wash anything dog or cat related but mine are long coated so I can't guarantee it'll help with your issue...

I use these horse wash bags, the jumbo ones are plenty big enough for a sofa throw. It keeps all the hair inside and then just it turn out while outside and can shake off hair as dries pretty quickly.

When washer drum and door rubber seal has dried fully you could stick vacuum hose in help get rid of any loose hairs thats left.

Rubber brushes or (gloves at a push) are fantastic at helping shift hair off surfaces so can vacuum it up more easily too.

There are pet hair catcher gadgets that you add to the wash in the washing machine. I've heard they work really well.

Another recommendation for the horse blanket bag, it's been a game changer. I got mine from Amazon, it was less than £10 and is big enough for all her bedding to go in at once.

Also useful for freshening up ds trainers on a cold wash

I just bought sachets of pet hair dissolver from b&m which you add to the machine for this issue. Fingers crossed it works.

I just hoover my machine out after it has dried!

Me too.
We have a lab- our clothes aren’t covered in hair.

Vamoosh washing machine cleaner and the horse bag. 2 blacklabs here and our clothes remain hair free.

This sounds excessive, how much hair? My short haired dogs hair never ended up in the washing machine. I use the horse bags for my kids stuff in shedding season though.

Ooooo I'll try this!

Thanks all for the suggestion of the horse bags. I can get those easily enough so I'll try that.

I've also forced everyone to wear slippers because I think a lot of the washing machine hair is coming from socks, which already seems better the last few days.

It's not a big house, but sweeping just downstairs gets a good 2-3 dustpans full of hair each day.

He's a mountain breed so I am wondering if the heat from the week before last was making him shed more.
