Saw a dog being abused today.

I’m so angry with myself. I was driving and couldn’t really stop as I was on a bend. I saw the abuse from a family, dog was only a cocker-looking type, small and slim. It was being repeatedly hit in the head, jerked and then hit again. I beeped my horn and yelled as loudly as I could out of the window, shouting at the adult about how awful it was. They just stared at me like I was mad. Then I had to drive on. I wish I had said bugger the cars behind me, found my phone and taken photos and videos but i was so angry/concerned about stopping on such a bit of a road that i just didn’t think. This happened first thing and I’ve been thinking about it since. The person abusing the dog was a child of around 11 or 12 maybe? The parent was watching. I don’t blame the child because it’s clearly been normalised to them, but the parent is a disgusting human being, to allow it, potentially even encourage it.

It’s stayed with me all day. That poor dog is clearly living in an abusive household, nowhere to hide. I wish so much I had done more, my yelling would have likely done nothing long term, but if I had videoed and reported instead, maybe the RSPCA could have removed it.

I’m so fucking angry with myself. I didn’t know the area either as was driving through, I saw a shop and did wonder about asking but that was about ten minutes later in another village so figured it would have been pointless.

I feel complicit in a way, having not done enough. Watching the horse abuse has all been too much on top of it all.

My dog died earlier this year and I’d give anything to cuddle her again, it devastates me that there are dogs out there just like her being treated so horrifically.

Sorry, I just needed to offload.

I didn't want.to just read and pass on. This must have been so distressing for you. Don't blame yourself for not doing anything. It sounds as if there really wasn't anything you could realistically do. Poor little pup! Let's hope someone who can identify the bully owners will report them.

Can you put the descriptions of the people and the dog on a local Facebook page. Other people may come forward.
