Benji for a girl ?

overthehill23 · 16/06/2024 21:45

Hello

I'm pick up a pup beginning of August a golden retriever. I've owned dogs before twice but always males. This litter only had 2 males so I will be getting a female. My main issue with girls is I can't name them! I was set on Benji for a boy can I do this to a girl ?

Bailey would be my next choice.

Any advice

Well, Benji is a boy's name so you can, but will spend the whole time explaining to confused people that she's a girl and you couldn't think of a name. So I wouldn't.

overthehills23 · 16/06/2024 21:47

I'm due to pick up a pup

That's meant to say

overthehills23 · 16/06/2024 21:48

I thought that but I don't mind if people think she's a boy it doesn't bother me but I thought I'd ask peoples opinions Bailey's my second choice which is more unisex

Autumn1990 · 16/06/2024 21:48

It’s a dog so anything goes but you will get people assuming it’s a boy.

heldinadream · 16/06/2024 21:49

Bibi. Barbie. Bella. Britney.

Not Benji or Bailey. But thank god it's not a baby (which is what I first thought when I saw the thread)!

Mojodojocasahous · 16/06/2024 21:49

Benjamina!

overthehills23 · 16/06/2024 21:50

Yes deffintly not a baby!

A friend of mine said Benjamina to !

gettinabitwindy · 16/06/2024 21:52

You'll spend it's whole life correcting people when they say "he".

It's not that hard to come up with a name for a female...if you like the "ie" sound on the end

Betsy
Winnie
Ivy
Millie
Poppy
Lilly
Hettie
Nelly
Penny
Rosie

Upallnight2 · 16/06/2024 21:55

Go for Bailey 😊

overthehills23 · 16/06/2024 22:08

I do like the ie sound as I always do that with names anyway even my own DS. I've been through Molly, Lilly, poppy and I just don't like them.

The only other ones I liked were Harrie and Charley again very unisex.

I'm slightly leaning towards Bailey. I've know 3 dogs called this 1 male 2 females.

Gabbsters · 16/06/2024 22:16

You can use Benji for a bitch, it's fine.

Quinque · 16/06/2024 22:19

Of course you can use Benji. It's not a girl, it's a dog, it won't know, it won't care and it won't get bullied because it's got a male name!

whoactuallyreallycares · 16/06/2024 22:19

I mean you can definitely call her Benji but people will definitely think she’s a boy.. who cares though! If you like the name then you should use it x

My male dog was called Bailey sadly no longer with us, my hubby and I wanted to call our next pup benji but then fell pregnant unexpectedly so that won't be happening. What about Bella?

NerdWhoEatsMedlar · 16/06/2024 22:37

Yes you can use Benji. Some people will be annoying and question you.

Or you can go abstract and use something like Bhaji or Banjo.

muddyford · 17/06/2024 06:35

Well, there are a fair few bitches called Charlie, after my dear uncle obviously, so I would go for a name you love. Or save it for your next dog puppy? My retrievers are named after rivers so sex doesn't matter.

Willmafrockfit · 17/06/2024 06:36

how about Betty?

fieldsofbutterflies · 17/06/2024 06:39

You can use whatever name you like but you'll constantly be correcting everyone who assumes she's a boy, so it depends whether that bothers you or not.

Personally I wouldn't go with Bailey either as it's so popular.

Willmafrockfit · 17/06/2024 06:58

i dont think you will be correcting people,
it is not that important anyway,
people ask boy or girl, imo, without knowing anything about the name, in a dog

CellophaneFlower · 17/06/2024 08:24

I really don't think it matters, if you like Benji, go for it! Other walkers always refer to my girl as "he" anyway, despite her having a purple harness and lead and me correcting them!

You could also use a name that isn't a human name, so more unisex. Fudge or Cookie or something, especially if it suits her colouring.

Newpeep · 17/06/2024 08:39

My bitch has a unisex name most commonly used for boys but there are some prominent female singers at the moment with the same name ;)

Everyone thinks she is a boy. I said we'd let her choose when she is old enough to understand the implications 😂

DataPup · 17/06/2024 08:51

My two have very obviously female names, they still get called good boys all the time. Of course they don't care.

Of course it's not important in the grand scheme of things but some people do get weirdly annoyed if you assume their dog is a different sex Grin

CellophaneFlower · 17/06/2024 09:10

It happens with babies too. Baby boy can be clearly dressed as a boy and older people especially will go "Oh isn't she beautiful" 😂

All dogs are apparently male but it normally goes the other way with babies for some reason 🤷
