Puppy seeking

lazylittlelucy · 12/01/2024 20:57

We are looking for a new puppy to join our family for the 1st time.

I have read lots of warnings not to use random websites which may be unethical puppy farms but am otherwise unsure of how to find a reputable breeder near where we live i.e. North West

Does anyone have any advice on where we could start the search or can recommend? Ideally we would like a Cavapoo but am open to other suggestions,

TIA

I'm going to echo the post by Devilshands and add - spend some time reading threads on this forum and on AIBU by people who got a puppy and had no idea what they were letting themselves in for; they mostly want rid of the puppy.

Devils post is brilliant. It’s definitely best to start with what you can offer a dog and what you can manage. Eg exercise and grooming.
I would avoid all poo crosses and cavalier mixes. Parents may be “healthy” but won’t have had the specialist breed tests a decent pedigree breeder should do.
It’s a minefield. Backyard breeders and puppy farmers. Decent breeders don’t breed often at all. I would go for a pedigree and start with the breed club or rescue.

If you want a ‘cockerpoo’. Please go to a shelter all unethical and unpredictable high maintenance and high energy etc. Most the time what you actually want is a well-bred poodle.
