Those who have 2 dogs, what made you get the 2nd?

We have a lovely 1 year old Beagle, he did suffer from some separation anxiety but he seems fairly OK now, although he loves to chew things.

When we go out for walks he is friendly with the local dogs, he has his favourites and its lovely to see him with them, like last night he spotted his bestie before I did and sat and waited while she walked over bouncing around all happy to see him. I think he would like a friend. We've covered all the practical questions, like affordability, space, time etc.

What the deciding factor for you?

I suspect if fate hadn't intervened to get our second we'd still be debating the merits of one versus two.

Older one accepted the puppy very quickly, was much easier than I imagined.

We’ve said if we get another it will definitely be an adult rescue dog, and they would need to have spent some time at our house with our dog first. I definitely couldn’t ever do the puppy stage again!

My first dog ripping up the blinds and generally was showing he was unhappy being left on his own, he would also cry when we went upstairs to bed, even if we had spent the whole day with him. This only happened when he hit the 16 month mark.

I adopted my second dog and they honestly adore each other the sleep cuddled up together, play together. If you're walking one, walking two isn't much difference. They are just such a joy to have, they do get a little noisy when playing which I worry about a little with the neighbours.

Now I have 3.... 😅

Older dog had an inherited condition which reduced the things we could do together and he was brighter when we walked with friends' dogs. Getting the second dog went well but when older dog died and I got a puppy if was a total nightmare. I won't be replacing second dog when he dies. I'll stick at just one.

I just bloody love dogs 😂.
And we didn’t go from one dog to two dogs. We went from one to three after adopting a bonded pair. Turns out three muddy Labradors aren’t much more difficult than one muddy Labrador. As long as you have a car big enough to transport them all that is, and we did. And they all loved each other immensely. They’re all gone now, all long lived though, with a mental Greyhound in between. Working my way up to the next doggie atm, looking misty eyed at bonded pairs again!
