What veg can dogs eat?

OldSpeclkledHen · 21/12/2023 09:04

As per title! Twat dog ❤️ loves a carrot, so that's great for treats...

But sure I've read somewhere they can eat sweet potatoes ?

Would these need to be cooked? Or raw?

And what other veggie stuff can he have? (And raw or cooked?)

Just looking for ideas for his Kong stuffing, and hidden titbits to search out 🙂

Thank Yoooo 🙏

Definitely not onions or grapes. Herss a list:

Mine detests strawberries and used to wolf bananas but now turns her nose up at them.

Loves watermelon and we share one each summer when it's hot.

She eats a nice ripe pear really delicately though, it's very sweet - holds it between her paws and takes small bites.

Safe fruit and veg for dogs

Our vets have put together a list of safe human food for dogs

I think they can't have raw potatoes or onion. Most veg is ok, my dog loves her veg cooked with gravy on.

Be warned sprouts have the same effect on a dog as they do a human 🤢

Normal potato, no skin and cooked without salt. Cooked peas. Fine beans, broccoli and cauliflower but not too much.
our ddog is a fruity girl. Likes blueberries, raspberries, piece of banana, segment of satuma.

the absolute no list is onion, leeks, grapes. All poisonous to dogs

Mine love raw carrots, raw brocoli stem and slices of raw red pepper. Don't feed them onions, garlic, raisins or grapes as they are dangerous for dogs.

Mine love carrots, watermelon, pineapple, and broccoli. One of the chihuahuas is obsessed with cucumber. When we have cucumber and tuna she ignores the tuna and begs for cucumber.

When feeding raw veg, just take care about any cores etc that will not digest. Thinking specifically about sweetcorn cobs but I suspect some other raw veg may be similar because dogs don't digest raw veg especially well.

I have a dog used to carefully pick blackberries off the bramble bushes in Autumn, whilst walking. You'd look down and she'd have little purple lips from all the munching.

Mine loves cooked carrots, sweet potato, butternut squash (blitz the middle stringy bit, seeds and all, if I’m roasting one for me). Broccoli, green beans. He gets any leftover veg with his dinner. Some dogs love sweet potato ‘crisps’ but I’ve never tried that.

If I can be bothered, I blitz the leftovers up and chuck them in an ice cube tray. He thinks anything coming out of the magic freezer drawer is an epic treat after that time I dropped a fishfinger. Just don’t get the ice cubes mixed up with the ones for your G&T…

I buy bags of frozen veg and do him a bit every night mixed with his normal food. Usually broccoli, cauliflower, peas, carrot etc
Sometimes sweetcorn which makes for nobbly poo

If I'm cooking for myself I'll chuck in a bit of stuff too. Green beans, sweet potato (not too much as high sugar)

I just microwave stuff and let it cool.

Dried fruit to add to the list of no nos. Obviously at this time of year this means no fruit cake, mince pies, Christmas pudding etc.

How funny to read this today!
My twat dog ate some slices of cooked ginger this morning.
She also loves cucumbers, apples, watermelon, broccoli stalks, green beans, carrots and peas.
It’s a good job we have an allotment 😄

margotrose · 21/12/2023 15:39

Mine loves potatoes and sweet potatoes (cooked), sweetcorn, peas, green beans, tomatoes, red paper, cucumber and carrots.

He also loves melon (remove the seeds), apple, mango, strawberries and blueberries. He won't even consider touching raspberries or banana!

Definitely no grapes, raisins, onions or leeks.
