Think my mum's dog is dying

I'm currently in Spain looking after my mum who's fractured a couple of vertebrae recently.
She absolutely lives for her dog.
He's getting on in years but they're a real partnership.

Since she came out of hospital ten days ago, and I flew out here, he's really been giving her a hard time, favouring me over her.

She was ok with this cos she knows I spoil him.

Tonight was the first evening he snuggled with her.

He's been drinking loads lately, eating like a horse and tearing around the garden. All a bit out of character for the little chap.

Anyway. Woke up an hour ago literally covered in his shit. He's none the wiser.

Fast asleep.

He's Been coughing lots ( has an inhaler, medicine and injections for this) but they're becoming lesss efficient.

So I'm thinking I'll have to tell my mum in the morning.
She'll understand but will be utterly bereft.

I'm due to fly home on Sunday to be with my kids and DH. Not sure I can now.

I'm so sad for the dog and my mum obviously.

But absolutely heartbroken if it means I can't get home.

This little munchkin is everything to my mum.
She's always had big dogs but she got this little one when she realised she was too old too cope with a big one.

You’ve not described anything that would imply he is likely to die but lots of things that could need investigation , hope it works out ok .
