Anxious my dog has eaten my HRT!

I'm sure I'm being paranoid but.

I've just come home. dS went out 90 minutes ago and didn't shut the sitting room door properly.

The dog is not allowed upstairs but will make a break for it if he gets the chance.

Before I left the house, I knocked my Lenzetto HRT spray on the bedroom floor. I was in a rush and didn't pick it up. Now I can't find it.

I'm worried the dog has got hold of it and eaten it.

Surely I'm being ridiculous. Surely he would have maybe chewed it a bit then dropped it rather than eating the whole thing. It's hard plastic.

He's a spaniel.

But I've looked everywhere.

I've been to the pub so can't drive and emergency vet is 45 minutes away.

Please tell me I'm being ridiculous.

I thought my dog had eaten my wireless earphones in the case a while ago. After a mass panic and gazing down her throat I found them in my shoe!

If you do think he has then you’ll need to speak to the vet. Likely the hormone isn’t dangerous but the plastic can cause a blockage.

It's very hard plastic.

How big is it? I think it's more likely the dog picked it up and left it somewhere else. Have you searched the house?

Newpeep · 08/12/2023 19:19

Yes he could. Spaniels are notorious for swallowing now and thinking later! It’s no harder than an antler.

LongTermLurker · 08/12/2023 19:29

Hmm, I have that spray and I'm finding it hard to imagine even the most guzzly dog managing to eat it. Does she have form for chewing unappetising plastic things?

But it's too big to swallow. He would have had to chew it and break it up.

Call here: https://www.animalpoisonline.co.uk/. You’ll get an immediate answer on whether you need to be worried. Brilliant service.

Thank you @Motorina. I phoned them, although it cost £35.

She says the drug itself is not going to harm him so there's no emergency, but to keep an eye on him for next 48 hours for blockages if he has eaten all that plastic.

I still can't quite believe he has but have no idea where it could have gone.

I feel less anxious that it's a dash to the vets though.

Thank you.

No worries at all. I’m a beagle owner so have used them lots, and they’re fabulous. Glad they’re not worried.
