Dog has food poisoning

Help! My dog ate out of date chicken from my bin and has thrown up once. He won't sleep and keeps drinking water. How do I know if it's serious and is there anything I can do at home to help him?

Good he's thrown up - what breed/size? And how much chicken?

I'd be very worried if there was shaking/lethargy/shallow breathing. I'd probably see how he was in the morning and book in vets if not picked up.

My lab once ate 750g of chocolate. We did emergency vet. They gave him charcoal he threw up and was fine £270 vet bill (out of hours fee) but we claimed on insurance

Also boiled rice is good for settling stomach.

Tinned plain pumpkin is also very good for settling a dogs digestive system. You can generally find it in the American food section at the supermarket.

This happened last week to us raw chicken and most of the packaging. Our boy was vomiting too. I called the vet she said as long as he was drinking and the vomiting stopped he didn't need to come in. She suggested giving him plain cooked rice. He was pack to his old ways in 2 days so the garbage is blocked now. I'd call the vet just to be sure. Best wished on a speedy recovery

Oh poor pup .. the cooled water from boiled rice is a good place to start.. slowly for rehydration .. they're very good and getting it out and recovering - we have a dog who has done this and after a quiet day of feeling sorry for himself has been fine

Is it poisoning or mechanical damage from eating chicken bones which splinter? Did he have bones or just the flesh?

If he had poisoning, he would be more likely to have diarrhoea that vomiting in a lot (but not all) of cases.

Are you sure it's food poisoning and not vomiting due to him eating chicken bones?
