Winston (bulldogs) and Rocco (brachys generally for whatever reason) are done to death , pretty much like Bailey or Teddy for cockerpoos. I like your DC's suggestions best. Or Dave. Dave is a great name.

DD has a Frank (not a bulldog I add).
we’re currently thinking about another pup, we already have a ten year old lad who seems to come alive when Frank visits so we thought a mate might do him good, I had chosen Kevin but this has been vetoed by DH as it’s the name of his director at work 😂
I do love old man names though, Arnold being another.

Why does no one call their dog Fido any more?

Probably for the same reason no one calls their dog Dolfyn, Flowre, Fawkon or Nosewise. Times change.
