Is a German shepherd puppy a bad idea?

Dh is desperate for a dog. Our wonderful rough collie died unexpectedly last year and we’ve all taken a long time to get over it but I think we might be ready now to have another dog. I’m actually a little nervous around dogs that I don’t know very well so we would have another puppy.

Locally there is a litter of german shepherds. Dh doesn’t want a small dog. Are German shepherds very difficult dogs. We have two cats and also chickens (although they are in a large walk in coop).

Another rough collie owner here. What about one that is a different colour to your previous dog - a sable if you had a tri, for example. Or a smooth collie. Always fun trawling through www.collielife.com

You can get showline German shepherds which ,ale excellent pets if you’ve owned a dog and trained a dog before. I have a showline gsd, and a working line gsd. The showline is lazier, likes nothing better than a long sofa nap, the working line is a,ways in the go, needs a job all the time, does IGP and is very high drive. A complete contrast to my showline. However my showline is vastly different to a golden retreiver or a rough collie.
if you definitely want a gsd, get a good trainer on board, find a good breeder and go and see their dogs
