Hello

I have recently adopted a dog, 2.5yo, a mix of poodle and a terrier.

He seems to be completely untrained. I mean he is potty trained but otherwise he doesn't even respond to sit.

I would like to train him some basic commans like sit, stay, paw etc but I would also like to work with the dog on heel walking, and stop him from jumping at all visitors and ignore dogs as currently he gets overexcited and pulls like a tank if a dog is in a view.

The Pupford training courses are good. I used them for our puppy but they do 'new dog' ones as well and if he's untrained, the puppy content would still be applicable

I would start with all the basics as if he were a puppy. It will take a bit longer, especially the socialisation parts. Mine was a 2 year old lab, also untrained apart from toilet. It's seven months on and he now knows sit, stay, wait, leave it, look at me, and heel. He is still working on recall which goes in cycles of being really good, then a lapse, then really good, then a lapse etc. Also, barking at the door and jumping which has been getting better by making him either go to his bed when the doorbell rings (difficult to do unless it is expected), or not letting him cross a boundary when it rings unexpectedly.

Make every opportunity into a training session. I allocate part of his meals for rewards, and make him work for everything. Sit before eating, sit before lead goes on etc.

If you are struggling with sit, hold a treat at nose level and bring it up and back over his head. If he reverses back try this up against a wall so he can't reverse. Also, don't be frightened to use a house lead indoors for additional control.

Oh, and in answer to the direct question, have a look at Zak George's youtube channel. Loads of information there.

Dogs Trust do adult dog training classes :)

I recently did a reactive dog class with them and my dog is 8 years old.
