New Puppy Crate, Older Dog Not

We are welcoming a new puppy into the house in December this year. I am planning on Crate Training him. I have an older dog in the house as well.

My older dog (8 yo Cockapoo) was crate trained but I removed her crate some 4 -5 years ago when she spent more time out of it than in it. The crate we will be using for the puppy will be her old one but will be 'furnished' with new bedding for him.

Has anyone got any experience of this? Will be older dog try and reclaim her crate? Should I just get a new crate and offer both dogs a crate each?

Any advise welcome and appreciated :)

I’d get a new one for the puppy and leave the old one set up and open in case your older dog goes, ooh, crate, nice.

saves any confusion or arguing between them.

My older dog didn't try and move into the crate (not did the older dog before). Just lay in his basket next to the crate and looked smug!
