Bitch in heat + neutered dog

Hi there, have just adopted a bitch (Spanish galgo) and she’s in heat (started on the 7th). My boy (whippet) is neutered and 14 years old. He’s kind of interested until the interest is returned (have to say it’s quite funny: he’s always been a bit of a sex pest, but turns out he’s not so keen on having his willy licked all the time). Any advice for the coming weeks? Tonight has been a bit full on. She will obviously be neutered as soon as possible.

Can your boy go for a holiday somewhere for a bit? It's the easiest option to ensure neither dog gets upset or hurt.

thanks for reading and replying. Sadly no: the only friend still willing to look after him (he’s old, deaf, sometimes has accidents in the house) isn’t able to look after him in the next fortnight.

Do you have any baby gates? Are either of them crate trained? Any way that they can have their own space, especially if you're not on hand to supervise. Would putting a house lead on one/both so you can gently move them away from each other be useful?

Lots of nice distractions like chews or kongs (given separately as you don't know what your bitches hormones might do).

Thanks for the ideas. I didn’t realise what I was getting into. I’m going to be here all the time to supervise (WFH). I’m even considering sleeping downstairs with them tonight. But no, no crates. I guess tomorrow it’s going to be a very long walk with adopted dog to tire her out (home boy is too old for long walks now).
