XL Bully ban/ Staffy...

Hi All,

Not sure if anyone is able to shed some light at all?

Aware the XL Bully breed is now being banned in the UK and I'm just wondering what this means for Staffordshire Bull Terriers and other similar breeds? I own a lovely Staffy and I'd be lying if I said this isn't concerning me. He is pure breed, KC registered etc so not a cross breed of any sort if that makes any difference.

Our family would be heartbroken.

Thanks in advance.

I have a rescue staff. I think there will always be one breed that’s under scrutiny- used to be GSDs. But more and more people have dogs now and many people see it as a right rather than a responsibility.
I am in favour of serious licensing fees and the money gained goes straight to enforcing it. Too many people just get massive dogs without a thought in the world. It’s not a right. Something has to be done but banning breeds will just make them even more desirable with certain groups of people.

Nanny dogs...no, but there are only 2 breeds of dog that are described by the kc as being particularly good with children, and one is the staffordshire bull terrier

The Kennel Club you say.......the same that have caused untold pain and misery in thousands of dogs?

I wouldn't take any recommendations from them.

I own 2 dogs, a Frenchie and a stuffy x XL bully. The bully is dog reactive. I was walking my dogs on the street when another dog ( staffy)appeared from an adjacent field. I tried to keep the dogs apart but failed. The staffy bit my dog thus causing my dog to bite back. Had bite marks to his face from the other dog. The staffy owner blamed me and my dog for the altercation. All dogs no matter of breed are capable of being unsociable.

Of course, but the damage that a dog bred to fight and kill BULLS can do is much more serious than other breeds.

Would you rather be attacked by a labrador or a XL Bully????? Which do you think you have more chance surviving?

"I was in the vet recently, there was a big reactive aggressive dog and this very large vet practice had to clear everyone out - someone with a cat was shut in one room, I was shut in another room with my small dog and the entire staff of the practice present (more than 6 people) and the owner had to deal with one very scary dog."

Let's call a spade a spade, shall we?

Thank you for your post on the history of bull breeds. You seem to have missed the fact staffs were bred as nanny dogs for many years and would be kept in the nurseries with babies and small children....
Perhaps rather than judging you could post information which is helpful for the person posting or just say nothing at all

The ''Nanny Dog''is a complete myth and fabrication.
At no point in history have bull breeds been used as ''Nannies'' to children.

I believe if they appear large broad and heavy headed they are classed as xl bully measurements.

Also if males are 20inches from paw to withers or females 19inches then they are also classed as xl measurements x

I watched my puppy being ripped to shreds by a off lead staffie. I will never get over it and I hate all bull breeds as a result
. I wish they would all be banned.
