Dog friendly places to stop along the M4

Honu · 12/08/2023 16:41

I shall be driving almost the entire length of the M4 together with short chunks at either end. Entire driving time about 5 hours if no problems. I shall be on my own except for my young lab.

Can I take the dog into a service station and into the loo? Otherwise are there any good places just off the motorway where we can stop? I've never done this sort of journey before so any advice welcome.

In Swindon there is a country park. It's a few minutes off junction 15. It's called Coate water. Has toilets / cafe and can do a short or long walk 😊

M4 dog walks

I dont leave my dogs unattended in service stations and most dont let you take your dogs in with you. So tend to take food etc with me.

The services at Membury (between J 14 and 15) has a big grassy area for dog walking on the West bound side.

You won't be able to take the dog inside the services with you. They'll need to stay in the car while you go in, or you'll need to stop in a village somewhere with public toilets and take the dog in with you there.

Moto services at Leigh Delamere - think you can take dog in to use the loo but not shops or food outlets. I found out online. I'm doing most of the M4 on Thursday so will be trying that facility. Also young Labrador!

Leigh Delamere looks about the right distance to stop on the journey west. I can provide food and drink for us but feel I'm not going to last the whole journey without a pee and don't want to leave the dog in the car especially as it looks as if it is going to get warmer. Please let me know how you get on.

Moto say they allow you to take your dog in when just using the loos at any of their motorway services, so that gives you quite a few options along the M4 - as well as Leigh Delamere I think Reading, Chieveley and Cardiff are Moto services.

For somewhere for your dog to stretch its legs, Lydiard Park is v near J16.

Spanielsarepainless how was your trip along the M4 yesterday?
Cockerdileteeth thanks for the Moto tip. I can't find that policy online but will try it.
I think I am probably massively overthinking this trip and stressing out although my rational brain says it should be fine.

Now back from my M4 trip. Thanks to all of you for your help with the Moto services. My lab came into the cubicle with me, no problem.
