Dog hasn’t been to bog all day?

7 year old frenchie. He hasn’t moved off his chair all day. He’s not been for a wee or a poo, not eaten or drank anything …

Literally has been laid asleep since 10pm last night. (He’s got up and moved positions etc)

Should I be worried? He’s not a big eater anyway so that isn’t a concern but he hasn’t had a wee since last night and it’s now 2:30pm?

Is it because of the rain? Ddog will happily avoid having to go out for a wee if it's raining. She went out at 6pm, refused to go before bed, went at 8am this morning during a lull in the rain and has slept ever since.

Doublechins · 02/08/2023 14:35

My Frenchie is the same when the weather is like this. He will literally hold it until he's fit to burst rather than go out in the rain

MillWood85 · 02/08/2023 14:37

Even when my older dog is very poorly with his arthritis he will still mither me to go out for a walk and to eat.

If this isn't normal for him, it needs investigating with your vet.

My first Labrador went from 3.00 one afternoon till 2.00 the following afternoon as he wasn't going out in the rain!

Tontostitis · 02/08/2023 14:50

My chihuahua almost did a back-lit when I opened the back door. Pretty sure he hasn't been outside since 6am. He'd rather burst than get his feet wet.

mondaytosunday · 02/08/2023 16:32

Don't you guys just take them out? One of my dogs, who has little hair, doesn't like the rain but I still take her out for a walk. The other one resembles a sheep and it takes him a while to even notice it's wet.

My Nan had a collie who would only toilet in the garden. They took her to guernsey on the ferry one year and they tried to get her to go to the toilet before she went on the ferry. Anyway, she refused and still held it in

By the time they got off, the dog shot off to the grass and weed for England. She was ok peeing outside the garden then though

cinnamonfrenchtoast · 02/08/2023 17:00

I'd be concerned that he's barely done anything at all in over 14 hours now.

The lack of wee/poo wouldn't bother me by itself, but the fact that he hasn't asked to go out, hasn't eaten and hasn't had anything to drink is pretty concerning IMO.

Newpeep · 02/08/2023 17:44

Lack of toilet not much of a concern but if he's not behaving as normal it would be.

orangeclubsarebest · 02/08/2023 17:50

My JRT doesn't eat much so wouldn't be unusual for him to not eat for that amount of time. He can also hold for the toilet for an astonishing amount of time if he doesn't want to go out. He's always offered but doesn't always want to.

FrenchBullFrog · 02/08/2023 19:19

Thanks everyone, he ate his dinner and finally agreed to go for a wee at 3:30pm 😂

Can't believe people with little dogs don't just take them out. Obviously harder to make a Labrador walk but still!

Why should a small dog be forced just because you can pick them up?

NashvilleQueen · 02/08/2023 19:25

My spaniel used to just pull me back home the moment he felt the rain. Not a chance he would get wet.

If I did that he’d just stand there shaking. Have you ever met a frenchie? If they don’t want to do something they bloody well won’t no matter what you do 😂

A bit like children dogs don't always know what's good for them. I make my children go for walks and took them to the toilet (when they are little) even when they claim they didn't want to go. It's not healthy for a dog or child to sit all day long. I've had 7 dogs now, 5 of them to old age (2 are currently 3 and 7) and it's important they move about for their wellbeing, bones, bladder and overall health. None of mine have ever sat still for hours at a time. A couple fecking hated the rain but once they were out they got on with it.

Well you wouldn’t be able to force a St Bernard out for example …
