I have a thread running trying to find out what’s wrong with my dog
vet says white blood count is higher now than last lot of blood tests and needs second lot of antibiotics
plus meds to make him eat
plus he’s on 3 meds to stop him being sick
he’s not eating,he’s only getting out of bed to wee
im trying to feed him chicken to get meds in him,but he’s not interested.
today they say cortisol is high
they want him in to inject with some medicine, and then over the course of the day take different samples of blood out of him ..this show definitely cushings .
but he’s had so much blood taken already ,this has been going on since may .
he’s had 2 scans and an x ray .
3 separate lots of bloods tests on different days
he’s a rescue,he’s anxious, nervy ,and we have to carry him shaking in to the vets .
there’s still more results to come back ,but won’t be for a few days .
he has vets tomorrow, for more antibiotics, although they don’t know where the infection is ,
and medicine to make him eat
I’ve read up on the test for cushings and the medication needed ,and on going blood tests ,as well as his megasophagus ,which means I have to feed him tiny meals 3 times a day in an upright position, then hold him upright for 15 minutes so he’s not sick .

has anyone not treated cushings ? ..he’s on so much medication to stop him being sick ,
im not sure anymore I’m doing the right th8ng backwards and forwards to vets .
we have pet insurance cushings will be covered

we had a lab with Cushing, but no other issues, she was fine on daily medication for around a year but then started with trembling again, panting, drinking, unsteady etc. they tried tweaking her dose and needed a few blood tests to do so but her vet fear meant it was just cruel to keep taking her, they also had found a tumour in her neck so, when they wanted yet more blood tests we decided enough was enough. I’m of the opinion that, just because they can, doesn’t mean they should. She was 14 and had had a lovely life, I didn’t want to squeeze a couple more years out with her being miserable. We paid extra for the vet to come to the house to pts so she could have a calm end in comfort. Still miss her dearly but we felt it was the right choice. I know how hard it is, sorry your dog is so poorly. It’s hard to see them struggle, they are such a big part of the family.

I feel the same ,just because you can doesn’t mean you should.
so far ,it’s just been assumed that we will take every test going because we have pet insurance.
who knows what the combination of all these meds together is making him feel .our dog is only 5 though,I’m torn ,if he was older I’d just want to make him comfortable and pain free

Oh gosh, 5 is so young. That is a lot of time left to live with ongoing conditions that may cause him discomfort, equally he has so much time left and may feel fine once meds are sorted. That’s really tough but yes, I think the assumption is to just keep going and going. Only you can decide if you’d rather stop I suppose. Sorry, a tough decision. Flowers

Just to add to the story
pup was diagnosed with myasthenia gravis ,which was causing the megasophagus.
