We hear so many negative stories about people adopting foreign rescue dogs I just wanted to share our Rosie and our positive story. So people can see that often it does work out!!
we lost our beloved 14 year old collie cross in Jan 21 and were lost without a dog for 11 months. As great rescue advocates we didn’t want a breed pup but knew we needed a young dog to integrate with our cats. We tried numerous uk rescues and despite ticking all the boxes on paper - kids now young adults, we are home based workers etc we got nowhere at all. We ended up viewed a litter of 5 month old pups at a local rescue who had come from Romania. They were beautiful and we took the quiet girl home after a home check. Yes we were naive and Rosie pup needed lots of gentle guidance and patience as she was a shy girl a little reactive with people and terrified to go near a road. So lots and lots of positive reinforcement and slowly slowly but my god has it been worth it she’s a joy.
Great with the cats, kids and loves us to bits she’s the most affectionate dog we have had. Yesterday she came up north had a day in Liverpool helping move student son, ate in a dog friendly restaurant, ran around Sefton park and settled on the journey home. Yes she’s still a little nervous of strangers especially men but once she knows you you are in her circle of trust.
Anyway long story but it can work. I keep in touch with her 6 littermates mums and all have made lovely family dogs. So don’t dismiss these dogs they have dreadful lives abroad and can be so special. But remember like any dog patience and work sometimes needed.
Anyhow here she is - now aged 2 and blooming loving her life 💖
