Teeth cleaning at the vets

Hello

I am looking for any advice or opinions please.

I have a 5 year old male Pomeranian (2kg) who the vet has recommended needs his teeth cleaned.

my mum and dad have said I shouldn’t get it done due to the risks involved.
when looking online it seems relatively safe although higher than human death rate when the dog is under anaesthetic.

I took my old dog to the vet to have his teeth done he had bad breath and a lot of tarter. Dropped him off in the morning and picked him up on the evening he skipped out and despite being a totally wimp normally didn’t see bothered in the slightest; he’d had 6 teeth removed I was advised to feed him wet for for 48 hours, he normally has dry, but he refused to eat it and was happily crunching his biscuits when I went to bed. Total bill £116.75! He’s 11 he’s never had it done before and the vet is hoping it will last him till he dies average age for the breed is 14-15. Why pay a “spar” every 6 weeks?

Very rural mainly farm animal practice, originally quoted me about £150 so I was pleasantly surprised when I went to pay.
