DDog ate marijuana in the park

OMG I have just about peeled myself off the ceiling. Took DDog for his evening walk yesterday and he ate something unidentified in the long grass. About an hour later he started shaking and wobbling, and felt really hot. I freaked out and called the 24 hour vet who told me to come in. They diagnosed marijuana toxicity, so that's obviously what he ate the big eejit. He is home again now and still a bit tired but ok. The vet said it was really quite common (I'm in Sarf London).
I'm really shocked and honestly confused! Like I thought people just smoked weed and maybe dropped the butt so where are all these piles of stuff coming from? Do people just drop it if they are out and about?
Anyway I'm clearly never letting beloved doggy off the lead ever again but I'm so baffled as to how it's so easily available on the ground in our parks?

@backatschool I really, really wish I didn't know that 😳🤮🤮

Happened to to my dog too. Rushed him to emergency vet as I thought he was having some kind of neurological issue, shaking, vomiting, trying to get up the stairs but couldn't, loss of control of his back legs. It was terrifying.

Poor thing was off his fucking nut, ended up having diazepam to bring him down and stayed in for 24 hours on fluid.

Also sarf London.

This happened to my dog when she was a tiny puppy - we had blood tests that confirmed what it was… it was horrible, she collapsed and couldn’t walk or hold her head up, and she had to be at the vet overnight and evaluated for neurological damage. Thankfully she’s fine now (and doesn’t eat random stuff off the street since she’s passed the puppy stage)! Since then I’ve found (and thrown out) loads of baggies with drugs in them from the park… not something I’d ever noticed or kept an eye out for previously! I hope you and your pup are both feeling better soon x

Drugs must be cheap now, like throwing leftover McDonald's away

Mine did the same two weeks ago, he was only 13 weeks old! Had to stay at the emergency vets overnight and had IV fluids and activated charcoal. He looked so sad and sick when I left him. He's terrible for picking up anything he can find. He must have eaten it at the park, I've not been back since! £650 that trip to the park cost!!

Oh no so many of us! Bloody glad I took out insurance it's an expensive emergency!!

Mariposista · 16/06/2023 13:42

Your poor poor dog. They will just eat anything, they don't know it's bad for them. I dread my labrador getting his paws on something like this - his philosophy is 'eat first, ask questions later!' I am so glad he is ok. He is so cute.

@GetOurraMeWay he looks so much like my boy, he turned 1 back in May.

How is he in himself now?

GetOurraMeWay · 16/06/2023 15:05

@aperolspritzbasicbitch he is much better thank you 😊. He's an Australian labradoodle btw, such beautiful doggies and so loving too. But definitely 100% Labrador when it comes to greediness!

GetOurraMeWay · 16/06/2023 15:05

Also my boy turned 1 in May as well 😊😊

Such a fun age 🤣

Mine is a poodle/lab/retriever mix.

Thinks the world revolves around him, and every person and dog on the planet would like nothing more than to have him right up in their personal space. Obviously that makes recall training an absolute ball!!!

GetOurraMeWay · 16/06/2023 16:14

@aperolspritzbasicbitch yes this describes my goofball to a tee 😂. He loves everyone and everything and likes to bounce right up to them and cover them with licks. Not everyone appreciates this 😳

Once we induce vomiting in these dogs the strong smell of weed and in the last dog visible weed makes it really obvious what they ate.
There have been reported cases of death in dogs in Uk who have eaten weed. Plus someone studies show that CBD can induce liver failure.
