Anyone awake? I'm up with our epileptic dog.

He had quite a bad seizure at around 5pm and he's recovered fine but is now so so restless. This is normal I know but it's exhausting and I can't do anything to help him.

Anyone around for a chat? Doggy or otherwise!

Does he take medication? Our lovely Lab growing up was epileptic and he was prescribed meds from the vet which really helped. I hope your dog has settled now. It's horrible to see and awful for the poor dogs.

Administered the same way, transmucosally so rectal or intranasal.

Our lab was epileptic, could be months between seizures but sometimes he'd then have two the same day. Usually seemed to be brought on by waking suddenly from a very deep sleep. We found a bag of frozen veg across his back in the middle brought him out of it much quicker and reduced the severity. Have a Google on dog epilepsy ice packs. Might help calm him down afterwards also.

He is medicated, he's on two different types and has been since 4 months old, dosage adjusted as he grew in to adult hood.

I'd not read about ice packs before, will do some more research. The only difficulty with it would be that we are often on walks when they happen.

We have got some CBD oil but are a bit cautious about using it. Vet is non committal about whether he can have it so that makes us nervous.

It has surprised me how many dogs have epilepsy. Until our experience, I never knew dogs could have it.
