Does anyone use a bike trailer for their dog?

DH and I enjoy leisurely cycling - 40 or 50 miles, over several hours. We've recently moved house and don't have the same options we used to re dog care at the weekend, so are looking at a bike trailer.

Our dog weighs 10kg so is too big for a bike basket. I've looked at a Buddy Rider but am not convinced dog will like it, plus they can't be used with a carbon fibre seat post which I've got.

Does anyone here ride distances with a trailer, and is it really hard work? We live on the Suffolk coast, so no huge hills but there are quite a lot of gentle hills which might be an issue.

And can anyone recommend a good trailer? We've looked online at PawHut ones but difficult to tell if they are comfortable for a dog.

Thanks!

I used to cycle with our old girl in a trailer when she couldn't walk far. I'm 5'2" and 9stone and she was 20kg. The trailer was 30kg. So my thighs were like Rick's. Didn't really go far, just her usual haunts - into town, the duck pond, local beauty spots etc. I'm not a distance cyclist, max is probably 10 miles in a day. I'm also 58 so me and our old girl didn't do too bad.

I don't have any advice but think the idea of biking your dog in a trailer is very sweet. They would enjoy it so much!

Shame your bike won’t take a Buddy rider, we have one, DDog loves it!

I do. Our dog is only about 4 to 5kg though. We put his bed in it to make it more comfortable. We only go about 10 miles at a time. It's fun though and he seems to enjoy the ride, little bit barky at times. See if you can borrow one or hire one before committing.

Love this , I would wave to all your dogs in their trailers 😁

Thanks for all the replies. The ideal would be to borrow one first, but not sure how feasible that is. I'm fairly certain he would like the trailer, I'm.more worried about my ability to cycle up hills with it!

@CreepyQueen

Try Duggies in Buggies FB group as they always have people looking to buy buggies or if wanting to donate Winston's wheels loans dog buggies & wheelchairs out to owners that would struggle to buy.
