Ddog had her eye removed last Thursday, it has been healing well. She was checked for the second time post-op yesterday and the vet was happy with how it was going. She’s just been eating dinner with DH and I’ve come in to see blood smeared on the skirting board, her wound was bleeding (only slightly) and had opened/dropped down her face. DH hasn’t seen/heard anything happen and she’s not cried out so I presume she’s knocked it whilst eating. I will phone the vets first thing but I’m not sure if I should phone the emergency vets or if it can wait. Has anyone got any advice? I’m petrified that she’s going to get infected/go backwards. She’s currently sleeping on out bed with a towel underneath her to try to prevent any lint getting into it. First picture is her wound this afternoon.

I'm a vet 😊 Doesn't look like an emergency for tonight but I'd ring your vet first thing in morning if they do Sat appts. Any chsnce she has scratched it? Do you have an inflatable collar you can put on her overnight?

Agree. You sometimes get a little pocket of old blood stirring behind the stitches and it can weep out if knocked. As long as bleeding stopped, then leave alone and she’ll be fine. If bleeding continuous seek advice

@Grrrrrrrrrrrrrrrr @FurAndFeathers thank you both so much! I’m so panicked. It was healing so nicely,it makes me feel sick to think of putting her through anymore. She definitely could have scratched it but she was eating when I left and when I returned so I think she’s probably caught it in the corner of the skirting. The only time she has the collar off is to eat, she’s been so unlucky to do this in that tiny time frame!

I’m sure she’ll be fine - try not to worry!

She’s been to the vets this morning and is back on antibiotics (she completed her original course on Wednesday) and been given an antiseptic solution to apply twice a day as there is some fluid leaking from the wound. She’s absolutely fine in herself this morning which is lovely to see and the eye looks much less angry. Thank you so much for your help!

My Persian had her eye removed a couple of months ago. It was a long road. First the wound started to come apart. Then it got infected and I woke up to blood and pus all over the house. (The vet had seen it the day before and dismissed my concerns about new swelling.) She went back to theatre for another debridement and re stitching. It took about 7 weeks to heal. But it finally did.

That second picture is exactly what Magics eye looked like. I tried cleaning it. But left the vet to do it as it would bleed.

The first picture is when it was infected. The second picture is now. Fully healed and fur growing back.
