Hi!

This has probably been asked a thousand times but - here goes.

We are a family of 4 (smallest is 5) with a large house based in New Forest.

We have never had a dog before.

Looking for a medium size which doesn't smell too much (don't hate me!).

So far have considered:

  • miniature schnauzer
-cockapoo
  • Cavapoochon

Any advice? Thoughts?

Thanks ever so

Hi. My sister's border terrier deffo doesn't smell at all. Easy to clean. Was manic for the first couple of years with awful recall and then turned into perfect dog. I chose a rough collie on the basis of low odour and so far so good. Her feet are mud magnets but leave it a couple of hours and the mud falls off (all over the floor). Grooming is easy. I would say though that mine is very noise reactive particularly with loud bangs.

How about an at risk national breed. Cairns, Norwich, Norfolk, Selyham terriers. Or an airdale.

I am a novice dog owner and have an 8 month old working cocker spaniel. He can be hard work but we go to a training class each week and he’s responding well to his training.

But birds are his nemesis - in the new forest I would imagine this would be a problem 😂

We are first time dog owners and went for a Minature Shnauzer pup. We have had him 4 weeks now and he's been brilliant. He's been great at night and has picked up simple commands like sit, down, wait really quickly. Hes been fine to leave for an hour or so if we pop out. We have a camera watching and he's fine. No shedding and I cant smell anything yet! He is quite bitey/chewey though but we are watching carefully and hoping it will pass soon! Hes great with DS10 so it is proving to be a good choice for us.
