To go back to the vet?

5 yr old rescue border terrier. Had her 6 weeks. Transitioned slowly on to raw because she had a massive reaction to millies wolf heart kibble. She came to me with the instructions she only ate shreddies (the cereal) and 1 can of butchers per week.

She lived her entire life in a box with no lid in a garden surrounded by empty cans of dog food.
She's got her forever home here and she's won me over!

Anyway 2 weeks ago I noticed a very pungent musky smell around her. Had a look and she's got a clear bacterial reaction / rash all over her legs and chest. Straight to the vet we went for 2 weeks of antibiotics and 5 days of steroids.

She finished her course of treatment yesterday I've been keeping an eye on her, and she still has discoloured skin and new areas of pink skin. It does smell quite cheesy?

I caught our other dog licking her Chest the other day so I expect he hasn't helped! I've now got a cone of shame on the other dog..

The first photo is from 2 weeks ago and the second is yesterday.

Most vets say to come back once the medication is finished for another check up. From the photos, it appears there’s been an improvement but more is needed. Definitely return to the vet and see the same vet if possible.

Did the vet recommend regular baths?

Also ask about your other dog licking - should this be discouraged?

A further round of treatment and another 2 weeks should make a further improvement.

Yeah definitely go back to the vet, if the bacteria is really stubborn it might take a second round of medication

Also highly recommend DOUXO S3 PYO as a shampoo (they do mousse and pads too if it’s tough to bath him), it cleared my pups yeast infection up within a couple of weeks

My border collie had a had skin infection, he was in vets for the day and they took samples and had them sent off. He was given 14 days antibiotics and 10 days steroids. Once the lab had results, I was given another 14 days antibiotics and antiseptic cream. I had to use hisiscrub and to rub really hard to get the dead skin off once it started to flake. Have you been back to vets for further check up, if not I think you should.

Yeah I went this morning. She's got another 2 weeks of antibiotics. And some shampoo!

I don't have any advice but just wanted to say thank you for giving her a home and better life.
