Are dogs attracted to bright colours?

Probably a stupid question but I've never owned dogs.

On my run today I seemed to attract more attention from dogs than usual. I was wearing a new, bright red running top and I'm just wondering if that's why?

I had a few running towards me as soon as they spotted me - they were all under control and stopped by their owners so no harm done. I am quite nervous of dogs though so I might just stick to my usual dark colours if it is a thing.

Red is one of the colours they can see but I don’t think this is what attracted them to you.

Was you running? That’s a trigger

Dogs are mainly colour blind.

Yeah I was running but because I'm nervous of dogs, if I can see they seem interested in me I tend to slow down to a walk. This didn't seem to make any difference this time and they still bounded towards me.

Plus I run a lot and most dogs pay no attention to me when I run - we're blessed with very considerate owners and well behaved dogs where I live.

Yes and no.

Most colours are different shades of grey, but they can see red, blue and green

They can see bright yellow and bright blue the best.

Thanks all. Sounds like a coincidence then. Obviously just lots of very sociable dogs out today

They don't see the full range of colours that we do, but they can see blue and orange quite well; for this reason quite a lot of dog toys are blue and orange.

I've never heard of dogs specifically chasing after people wearing red; I'd try again and see, but my guess it was probably fluke.

They don't see red well so it may have got lost against vegetation and the dogs saw a disembodied head running towards them!
