I'm honestly so mad, we've bought a 4 month old wire haired dachshund he's perfect but when we brought him home he was covered in scabs and his ears was full of scabs that he kept breaking the scab and they was bleeding now we finally got him into the vets for a puppy check up and he's full of round worms 😢 the breeder said she has them all wormed and flea treatment, he's constantly scratching the vet said he hasn't got any fleas his fur on the bottom half of his body hasn't grown and covered in patches in just so feeling so sad for him he's on treatment now for roundworms and he's got to go back for a skin scrape but I'm just feel so sorry for him I'm gutted that the breeder has not told me what her vet said when she brought them, she's said the dog wasn't itching while in her care he was we seen and he itched none stop 😢

Did you see the puppy with mum and siblings?

KangarooKenny · 26/01/2023 21:18

Did you not see the pup before you got it ?
Why is the pup leaving at such a late age ?

helpneededx · 26/01/2023 21:19

@LastOfTheChristmasWine yes we did they was only two more that was left and when we went to pick our little boy up some one else was coming in to pick the other puppy up

Where did you find the breeder? Likely a dodgy one. Hope pup is insured.

Floralnomad · 26/01/2023 21:20

If you’ve bought a puppy with scabby ears the first thing I would do is worm and flea treatment as any breeder that would sell a puppy with scabby ears is obviously not going to be hot on treating anything . Hope your puppy feels better soon .

MaverickGooseGoose · 26/01/2023 21:21

Where have you sourced a 4 month old
Puppy from?

helpneededx · 26/01/2023 21:23

@Floralnomad well when I asked the breeder about the cuts on his ears she put it down to play fighting with the other pups which I thought may be a possibility, & obviously I just waited for the vet appointment because I know the vets well as I take my cat so I know they will give him prinovox flea treatment, yes we've got a good insurance for him

Please contact the local council licensing officer for the area in which the breeder operates. You've been had by a bad breeder and they need stopping. Tell them what happened. Also the RSPCA. Too many people are getting away with breeding poor pups because people feel sorry for them and 'rescue' them from the breeders. They need stopping. I hope your little pup comes through.

helpneededx · 26/01/2023 21:26

@ImJustNotMeAnymore we have reported to rspca and they said leave it with them to investigate i just feel let down and hopeless they said they couldn't get any buyers with it just being Christmas that they've been up for a while and noones got the money to be buying puppies I told my husband it's like she wanted the money and wasn't arsed about the puppy as why leave him itching without going to the vet 😢

Glad he’s having treatment and being looked after by the vets. The one thing I would advise if the vet wants to put him on any kind of allergy meds after ruling everything else out would be to try an elimination diet first before going straight to steroids etc. eg switch his food to something like Fish4Dogs and see how he gets on.

KangarooKenny · 26/01/2023 21:32

Of course she wouldn’t take him to the vet, that would cost money !

Greeders.

There are so many unwanted dogs.

Hope pup will be ok.

helpneededx · 26/01/2023 21:38

Honestly it breaks my heart! He's such a sweet loving little boy 💔

Selling at four months? The likelihood, given the rest of the picture, is that the pups were bred in Eastern Europe and brought in for profit. They’d be too young to have been brought over earlier.

helpneededx · 27/01/2023 18:39

@Motorina she had the mum and dad as family pets

Buildingthefuture · 27/01/2023 18:50

Breeders breed for money. Veterinary treatment for your dog would have reduced that money, ergo…no veterinary treatment. Awful for you and your dog of course, but entirely unsurprising. There are a fair few charities set up primarily to take on ex breeding dogs - the breeder works them to death and then when they can no longer make money, ditches them to a charity. The charity then have to put in months of work to socialise, train and rehabilitate those terrified and often poorly dogs, that have basically just been breeding machines. I’ve adopted a few myself. That is the reality of dog breeding.

helpneededx · 27/01/2023 19:06

@Buildingthefuture well I'm hoping rspca is going something about the mum and dad dog because it's utterly disgusting! I've tried to message the breeder about what the vet said and she straight up blocked my number 😡!!! Im just glad we have a great vet that will get him back right and he's got a happy safe home here with us, it's just a shame how they can breed for money and not give a damn about any of the dogs.

OP posts:
Motorina · 27/01/2023 19:11

@helpneededx maybe. But it's not uncommon for puppy sellers to use stooge dogs to make the customers think they're seeing the pup with mum.

LastOfTheChristmasWine · 27/01/2023 19:17

helpneededx · 27/01/2023 18:39

I hate to break it to you but they might not have been the real parents. It's not unheard of for puppies which have been imported or who have mums in visibly dire condition to be presented with a 'stunt mum'.

Imported puppies have to be a minimum of 15 weeks old when they come into the country, which dovetails perfectly with your pup being 4 months / 16 weeks old
www.thekennelclub.org.uk/about-us/campaigns/puppy-imports

With a younger pup it's easier to tell if it really is mum or not - from caring behaviour, lactation etc but much harder at this age.

RDAnna · 27/01/2023 19:23

Has he had injections? Surely their vet would have spotted it? At four months he should have had jabs.

helpneededx · 27/01/2023 19:26

@RDAnna he's only had the first vaccine which my vet has said it's not compatible with the vaccines they use so we have to start the vaccines again on Wednesday he didn't want to give him the vaccine the other night as he wanted to see what was the problem with him.

When did you get pup? Sorry you’re going through this, it’s heartbreaking to see them uncomfortable

Buildingthefuture · 27/01/2023 19:28

I’m sorry op, but the RSPCA won’t care. They have a basic minimum that if a dog has food, water and “shelter” (which can be a bit of mangy old plastic) they do nothing. They won’t get involved. You have bought a dog in good faith and you are now seeing the reality. All you can do it learn from this and maybe next time, do it differently.

helpneededx · 27/01/2023 19:30

@Starllght we picked him up Sunday just gone, and honestly I can't look at his little face without feeling pain, people like that knock me sick and they don't deserve any animals!

OP posts:
Lastqueenofscotland2 · 27/01/2023 19:31

Did you visit him several times before taking him home? And surely you noticed he was scabby and missing fur
