My sweet old boy is having surgery today

Just need a handhold, really. He's 12 and he has a nasty red lump on his face. It looked like a histiocytoma at first and started to recede on its own but then it flared back up, and he's rubbing/scratching/knocking it and making it bleed, so it has to go. It's hopefully just a sebaceous cyst/adenoma but we're having it sent for histology just in case, and having a fine needle aspirate of a lipoma on his shoulder done as well. I felt awful leaving him at the vet's - he's had a rough year, as he had a nasty run of pancreatitis and had to have ultrasounds and a referral to a specialist, who thankfully diagnosed it as immune-mediated and sorted him out with steroids.

He's just the loveliest, sweetest, funniest, busiest boy in the world, and waiting by the phone is agony (hence wibbling here). Any and all stories of older dogs flying through general anaesthetics with no ill effects would be very welcome!

Awww, bless him, I hope he’s alright, bet you’ve got a big cuddle ready for him.
But, yes, my old girl Labrador (RIP when she was 15 ❤️) had to have a small lump removed when she was nearly 13. She was absolutely fine, sailed through it and massively enjoyed all the fuss and attention. It was over Christmas and New Year a few years back and she had stitches in a short wound on the top of her head. We had lots of places to go over the holiday period and we couldn’t leave her at home as the other dogs kept trying to ‘clean’ her wound for her so we had to take her literally everywhere with us til she’d healed. Best year of her life I reckon, an old Labrador, with a wound and a cone of shame attracts a lot of Awwwws and fuss, believe me. I can still picture her now lying on her side in the middle of the pub on Christmas Eve surrounded by about fifteen small children all stroking and cuddling her whilst she had her ‘Adore me’ face on.
Hope your lovely boy just as resilient, I’m sure he will be ❤️

It's all gone well and he's awake (and singing) - we can collect him in a couple of hours :) Dreading seeing him though, in a way. They took a margin around the lump so it might be a bit of a dramatic scar. He has a lovely floppy cocker face though so it should heal up OK.
