So I could get another dog. My darling boy died late last year and I miss him so so much. I would love another but my circumstances have changed and I am now not working from home so much. If I won the lottery or came into an inheritance then I would rehome in a heartbeat - it would mean I could afford the rescue fees and doggy day care. As it is I'm left with a broken heart and an empty home.

It is so hard when you can not have the dog companionship that you want.

Having a dog is a huge privilege (that many people take for granted)

I do hope that your circumstances change and you can have a dog in your life soon.

Not the same but have a look at Cinnamon Trust volunteers - you get to walk one dog and have a relationship with the same dog and really help someone else who is having difficulties

Thank you for your replies. I have signed up as a volunteer for the Cinnamon Trust but I live in an area where there are a lot of volunteers, so we will see what happens if anything. You're right, it is a privilege to have a dog and I never took him for granted, he was my best boy. I was feeling so sad last night, I just wanted my sweet dog back and cuddled into my feet. I don't want another dog really, I just want my boy back.

Have you thought about fostering for a charity such at Dogs Trust , they cover all the costs including vet and food and many fosterers go on to adopt their fosterling

I’m so sorry about your dog, you must be devastated, I can so relate to not wanting another dog, just wanting your dog back, it’s just awful and I really feel for you. I was coming onto say Cinnamon Trust as well but I’m sure there must be other dog rescues that need fostering or walking, I know it can’t compare to your dog, but a cuddle from another canine companion might help the pain just a little.
